I guess Belichick forgot to cheat in the regular season loss that season .

He was winning game similar to Tim Tebow in 2011.So many low scoring game. The steelers had only 16 PPG with him. Tomlin was also one of the reasons, along with Colbert and Khan, why the Steelers drafted Pickett in the first round

I mean, from week 5 in 2003 to the super bowl 39,the pats were 32-2 including the playoffs. It was also know at that time,it was almost impossible to beat the Pats and Belichick twice in a single season

But you expected the Steelers to win on the road in 2016 in the AFCCG?

    Duck was 3-3.

The D that year was really good though. In think in part because teams knew that if they got to 9 or so, they'd probably win.

If I was a coach playing against us that year, I'd be in full on "don't beat ourselves...these guys can't score to save their lives...don't score for them" mode.

I hate that I respect what they did so much.

Because you shouldn't really be able to be that good over such a long stretch in the UFA+Cap era.

But I guess that's what happens when you have the best QB of the generation playing well under market value...and you cheat in every possible way you can think of (I guess the respect is kind of checked by the cheating).

I think it's worth noting that the Pats are a big reason why we never were the 1 seed in the AFC under Tomlin. And why we only had a bye week in the playoffs once (back when there were 2 byes).

And the time we did have a bye, we had our typical Ben/Tomlin slow start + score some points for the wrong team kind of thing...although to be fair, it was pretty novel when we did it then.

I wonder if someone went back and looked at the parity in the league (especially the playoffs) under Tomlin and Cowher (and even Noll) what the results would look like.

UFA+cap should increase parity. But that Pats team really figured out how to game the system.

Mahomes took note of the "be a generational talent at QB and play significantly under market value" part too.

Although part of this was certainly that KC got lucky that the negotiations for his 2nd contract happened in the middle of the pandemic when stadiums were empty and no one knew what the future of the league would look like.

But Mahomes had to have known (or at least really, really thought) that such a long deal was undoubtedly going to have him playing very cheap by the end. I feel like I certainly did...but it's a lot easier for me to gamble with his money.

im not having it both ways, lol

i’m just talking reality. If it was Tomlin coming in as the new coach and McCarthy the past one i would say the same thing.

We were not a real playoff team these past few years. We snuck in as the last or next to last seed and got our heads handed to us every time in the first round

because in the playoffs the skillset and talent is closer among playoff teams so it comes down to which team has a better gameplan and preparation going into a playoff game. That rah rah stuff doesnt work that well in the playoffs.

No, but I didn't think the defensive game plan was going to be that bad.

2019 is by far our best defense since 2010(If I exclude the first 2 games before the Fitzpatrick trade)....This is sad that the steelers had a awful offense with that but it was still a better offense in some years under Matt Canada despite they had several injuries(not just at the QB position but at every position, like receiver,RB,etc)

I agree. And to further support your point, Tomlin was an elite motivator, but that loses its advantage at playoff time because all the teams are motivated.

that was the year Ben came off that almost life ending motorcycle accident. This was still an elite team talent wise. All the pieces were otherwise there.

    fact.

    That made no sense

This is like debating with @Joel Buchsbaum@Joel Buchsbaum or scribble

Very simply which of these is not a fact and as you claim an opinion

    Tomlin inherited an 8-8 team

    McCarthy inherited a 10-7 team

Saying that Tomlin inherited a 8-8 team is like saying that the current chiefs are a 6-11 caliber team...This is so stupid.Every team can have down year especially after making the super bowl
