To the Dolphins for their first rounder and then use that to draft Dante Moore or Arch Manning, would you do it? I think at this point I would.

Yes, but the question is... would Miami do that? If they are drafting in the top 5, then the Malik Willis experiment didn't go well. They'd be in line to take a QB anyways. The only teams that could potentially be bad enough to draft top 5 and not be willing to pull the trigger on a QB would be the Raiders and Titans (mostly because they took #1 overall QB's recently). Cardinals, Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Falcons, Saints.... All of these teams would need QB, and likely wouldn't trade their pick to us. The Jets have 3 first round picks. I'm certain that if they aren't picking first they will try to trade to pick first.

Truthfully, I am taking the chance on Manning 10/10 times over Moore. The upside is higher for Manning, even if I think they are the best two prospects at QB. Sayin is the next one, being a smaller guy, but exceptionally accurate and cerebral. He seems to be the safest bet in the whole draft in being at minimum a quality enough NFL starter. Carr is a similar prospect style to Sayin, just not as good. Still a quality prospect. Mestemaker is a total wildcard. He's an air raid guy, which translates well to McCarthy's west coast style, but we will see how his step up to Okla St. goes. Leavitt is kind of a Jackson Dart comp too... lots of interesting prospects.

Im not trading a for freaking sure great young talent in hopes of maybe, maybe drafting a great young talent.
We have two great young talents on this team Frazier, and JPJ. They should be cornerstones of the future of the team, not trade bait for hopes of drafting good players

Do NFL trades allow for protection if it's a top pick? It's pretty common in the NHL to say we'll give you our 1st next year unless it's top 5 or top 10 or something. Trades happen so infrequently in the NFL that I don't remember if this is something they do. But if it is, I'd imagine that the Dolphin's would require this if they did this trade. In which case, I just wouldn't want to do it.

If we traded Porter, I'd want someone's 1st straight up. Especially to a team I think would be bad (who likely wouldn't want to do the deal).

A bad team wouldn't do that trade. But I don't think a team that thinks is might be bad this year would trade their 1st for 2027 regardless. Especially this far away from the draft.

I think the kind of team that would trade a 1st for JPJ would be teams like KC or BUF that are in "win now because we have a great QB" mode.

 

You are probably right. Except in a few circumstances, a team in a position to pick one of the top QBs will do so. Miami had seven wins last year, and now has Willis, who led the league in quarterback rating last year. If they still were bad but Willis played like Willis, they might try to fix several other positions by trading their first.

It sure is hard to get “The Guy”. Well, at least we aren’t the Browns.

 

Draft picks are the classic bird in the hand vs the bush proverb. I would never trade a young and established cornerstone player like JPJ. You hold on to him, compensate him fairly, and build around him.
