R.I.P Thread

Heard Dolly died and I heard about it on a rock station who'd never play a Dolly song but out of respect they asked the listeners to listen to one song by her. They played Jolene which I admit is my favorite song by her and one of the few I know. She is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I had family members who loved Dollywood in TN.

RIP Dolly.

 

RIP Dolly Parton. More than just a country music star. My son received books from her to begin reading and now both my Grandkids as well. Such a remarkable person who will be missed dearly.

 

The awesome thing about Dolly is that she has fans from little kids to people 100 years old. She was a great humanitarian too, I'm glad to see the president ordered the American flag to be lowered to half mast for a week in honor of Dolly. I can't remember this being done for an entertainer before but she was much more than that.

 

I found that interesting. I know just my State did half mast when Whitney Houston passed away. Only because she was a Jersey girl.

Seeing how the country is doing it for entertainment people I wonder if American icons like Betty White should have had it and when Morgan Freeman passes he should get it. Although I'm convinced Morgan Freeman still has 5 more movies in him. He is 90 and still kicking ass. I just saw him in a 2025 movie, "Now You See Me: Now You Don't. He has had an amazing career.

 

I know we are both old enough to remember when Elvis and John Wayne died and the flag wasn't lowered but I think back then it was only lowered when an ex president had died. I just looked it up and according to Ai the flag was lowered once before for an entertainer when Bob Hope died. Like you said many states have done it when one of there home grown stars have passed away.

That's Doctor, Frank N Furter to you. Always enjoyed his appearances in movies. Got to see him twice doing live theater in LA and as always, was very entertaining. RIP Sir/Ma'am, well done.

 

Peter Cullen known the world over for his voice work in both animated and live action films has passed. Always and forever the voice of Optimus Prime.

I think Im the only person who has never watched that movie, but enjoys the soundtrack

 

While at the time I didn't understand it, several people I worked with in Pasadena CA threw dry toast (not rice) when my (first) wife and I walked down the aisle leaving the church. It wasn't until many years later when someone forced me to watch the movie that I finally "got it". Very strange flick.

 

Make that two of us. I tried years ago but never made it past 15 minutes.

 

I get it. If a movie doesn't show bare boobs within the first 15 minutes I lose interest too.

 

I actually tried a few times.
I played in a band in the 90s, and all the guys in the band loved the movie so after practice they put it on, and I left not long after. Again I Love, and know a few songs from the soundtrack, but the movie just never appeals to me. Im not downing anyone that likes it. Different strokes for different folks .

 

It's not a movie to simply just sit and watch. It's supposed to be watched in a theater with a live cast acting out the movie in front of the screen as the actual movie plays. Also, audience participation is a must with people shooting water guns during rain scenes and such. It's a whole production and can be very fun and entertaining if done well.


It showed every Friday night for a decade or more at one particular theater. It was a very high school/college thing to do back then. Plus the theater was right next door to a row of fast food joints. Dinner and theater.
