To be fair, before a couple months ago the bolded part is pretty meaningless for anyone born after 1969.

Tomlin's obviously worse than Noll. Just like almost every coach that's ever coached football.

And being worse than Cowher is hardly an insult either.

My guess is that as of a couple months ago, the bolded statement isn't true even for those who think Cowher is better than Tomlin (to me it's a coin flip...so it kind of depends on the day).

The likelihood that McCarthy ends his run with the Steelers being better than any of the three guys before him is pretty low IMO. And it's unlikely that whoever we get after McCarthy is a step down from McCarthy too.

I hope to be wrong. But I think it's more likely than not that we'll find out how spoiled we've been re: coaching across most of our lifetimes (at least for those of us born after 69).

My take is on the 3 Steelers coach in my lifetime
    But
    I was born in 1965
There was another coach but I was too young to know
    So I just include
    Noll
    Cowher
    Tomlin
Tomlin the only coach to have a non losing season
    But
Almost a decade without a playoff win
This is unheard of as a Steeler fan
I am from the old the standard is the standard
    Not the new
    The standard is the standard
Which is apparently accepted in this day and age of
    Lower Expectations
    Adding
Yes very spoiled as a Pittsburgh fan at an early age

I think it's absolutely not unreasonable to put Tomlin 3rd in this list.

I think almost any NFL coach in history would be very happy to be compared to any of these three guys.

Trading for Metcalf and giving him a monster contract, then dumping Pickens was a huge mistake. They paid more for the lesser player and still ended up with an immature jackass.

Pickens was....is, an asshat. DK Metcalf is an overrated overpaid asshat. Both are losers and both shouldnt be on this team. I'm tired of having this ****ing discussion.

Cam is done after this year, he is the only one who could do it, but anyone else, zero chance. Not enough caché to have that kind of authority. Steelers just need to get rid of him. It doesn’t matter at this point that they don’t have enough receivers, he’s gonna suck half the year anyway. Play ok the other quarter and maybe have some 100 yard games the rest of the way.

I was told TJ Watt was a great leader whose presence in the locker room was vital. He will take care of this, right?

Really, prove it. Don't talk about it, prove it. Show me a HC in the history of the NFL that went to two SBs, won one, and never had a losing season that was fired.
    I'll wait here.
Now when saying that something would happen a person surely can show an example of that

I don't know him personally but from my armchair I'd say DK is a bad egg. I doubt anybody's gonna fix him.

I think the Steelers screwed up by paying him. They have an out after this season, so if he doesn't show good leadership and high end production on the field they'll cut bait and eat the cap hit. Which would be rather hideous but hey maybe there's a chance he grows out of this extended childish phase he's in.

Also not gonna get into the coach hate thing. I appreciated Tomlin for what he did, and I still do, but I'm not gonna make excuses for him. Every coach has areas of weakness and I fear it's likely the team has to navigate its way out of the DK situation and it might be ugly.

Yeah I cannot stand Pickens either. Fortunately we're about to embark on a nice window on offense starting this year.

Pittman got overpaid in Indy and it's why they moved him, but he's a pro. He'll work hard, block, do the dirty work for you and add possession to the mix.

Bernard's going to be excellent and a long term starter for us. Wetjen surprised me in the slot in preseason, he was open more than I figured he'd be so should offer some depth option to the pass game.

I think we're on the upswing now on offense, though we probably still need a QB after this season. Still doubt any of these guys are long term answers other than maybe backup duties.

Oddly enough, I don't love Pickens, either. I was one of the louder voices complaining when we started seeing him taking plays off. That said, the guy is an elite talent. They didn't get enough for him and they didn't adequately replace him. What they did was overpay a substandard replacement, who has since proven himself to also be an immature jackass. There were posters here who warned us about that from the jump.

My view at the time was they should have kept both, and Tomlin should have done his damn job handling the nonsense. My view in hindsight is they should have held on to Pickens, as well as the second-round pick and cap space Metcalf cost them. They would have been a better team in 2025 and this season with Pickens on the team.

The good thing about this social media bs is that some people reveal their true character, or in his case lack thereof, so everyone can be sure they are indeed the a-holes we thought they were.

AI is awesome for information. DK Metcalf (DeKaylin Metcalf) has a lengthy record of NFL fines (roughly 16+ career fines totaling well over $200,000), two ejections, and a 2025 suspension, mostly for on-field emotional outbursts, fights, unnecessary roughness, taunting, and arguing with officials.
    Also this recent gem:
August 2026 (Instagram): Responded to a fan comment questioning whether “the grass [was] still greener” after his trade from Seattle (Seahawks later won Super Bowl; Steelers exited early) with “Yo momma and daddy related?” (incest joke). Has to be gross to be close to him.
