I know it's pre-season but his body of work, combined with him standing watching the defender run with the ball after he caused the interception shows me everything I need to see from him. Cut him.

 

That is what Chris Hoke said on the post game show. The Steelers didn't dress him because they plan on releasing him.

Opinions vary. Most gurus seem to believe the preseason was good for the two. Howard didn't surprise and Allar has potential. Saw a lot of good reads and throws from Allar.

I'm one to believe Rodgers wont make the full season which makes Allar just a step away from your Pittsburgh Steelers starting QB. If the season is 'doomed' then they wont stay with Mason...it will be rookie time.

 

Why? Only 1 or 2 are on the field most of the time (save for maybe a goaline D play or two a game).

I think poster using DL was bad choice, DT would have been better since thats what ALL of them really are (our OLBs are hybrid OLB/DEs). Our OLBs are DEs since they always lineup at the end of the line, but we have four of those. So in total, with just 5 DTs we have 9 DL, that seems like PLENTY to me, given we have between 3 and 5 of those on the field 95% of the time.

I do recall keeping 6 intermittently at DT/(psuedoDE) through the years. I cringe at keepign the likes of a Lowry or Lee over a bigger need of reserves at DB or WR or LB (special teams players more often than a slow, lumbering DT).

The only reason to keep a 6th player at a position that rarely has more than 2 on the field at once is just that tall and/or bulky players get gassed more often and you're planning to rotate 4 at those two positions every few plays. Then a 5th that near plays might be a bit light in depth, but havint TWO that never play is possibly wasteful.

 

In the 3-4 era (1982–present), the most common number has been 6 DL. They have gone to 7 in several years (2012, and 2023 ). I could not find a single modern example of them opening the season with only 5 defensive linemen.

So there you have it.

 

Jamin Davis was released; I thought he had a chance to be a ILB/OLB.
