Back in the 70's there were 6 preseason games. No cable back then so no one saw them except the local fans.

Yep and I will bet most of the starters played in a goood majority of them. Could you imagine Chuck Noll telling Jack Lambert and Mean Joe Greene that they are to just watch from the sidelines and not go out and hit anyone?

The owners don't make much money on pre-season games and the NFLPA is trying to protect players health. Those two make for a crap brand of football.

The owners make money by creating a gladiator type sport fueled by HGH and PED's. The players have to use HGH and PED's keep pace.

And it won't get any better.

Back then the backups were sprinkled in the first 3 or 4 games but by week 5 the starters played the last 2 pre-season games to get ready for the season.

If you already know who the starting 22 are, why play them in this scrimmage? This is for deciding who will make the team as depth. We won't be running the playbook like on game day. See what guys have learned in TC and practices. Those are the players we will see mostly.

What's up with the NFL Network showing the Steelers all this love they're showing all three Steelers preseason games live, usually they would only show one game live and then I would have to wait for the replay.

I agree but due to the increase of injury risk I wouldnt be for it.

They’ve been practicing everyday for a month. It’s not like they are picking up a football for the first time when the season starts.

Maybe they want to see Allar in the second half!

First team should get the first quarter, but who knows? I would send in Rudolph in Q2 and then let Allar have the second half.

Surprised I was. I was sure they'd show one of the 8:00 games. I was thinking it would have been Niners/Raiders.

I meant a few series, over one or two games. More than a few handoffs of course. You want your starters to be as sharp as possible going into game 1. Bradshaw played a good amount in the preseason i remember, Ben a little less but he played at least a half for one or two games.
