Movies Recently Watched

It was an interesting spin on the unknown. I thought they were an offshoot from Predators at first. Interesting how the family hunted.

 

The "Bombing of Pan Am Flight 103" on Netflix was done well. Depicted how messed up the inter-agency and inter-country efforts were back then with all the egos and firewalls. Albeit, I wanted to turn on closed captions to understand much of the Scottish accents but my Lady hates any writing on the screen so I missed much of what they were saying at times.

 

I always watch CC during a movie.

 

I saw a statistic that said (as a surprise to me) something like 60-70% of TV watchers use closed captions, weighted heavily with younger adult viewers. So that means you're in with the In-Crowd.

 

I started doing it way back so I could watch, and still play the guitar.

 

I thought you were going to say - watch and chew gum or chaw.

 

Just watched for first time John Carpenter's "Vampires" from 1998 with James Wood. Pretty cool - interesting take on the eradication process. Also liked "30 Days of Night" from 2006 based in Barrow Alaska where the menacing vampires only appear 30 days each year during the 24 hours of darkness period. Must be my Romanian roots.

For some reason two moments stick in my mind from "30 Days of Night". I got a kick out of the one vamp looking at his friend after realizing it stays dark for a month and saying, "we should have come here sooner" and the record player where he uses his fingernail as the needle to play it. (And he didn't need a coin on the arm to make it work)

 

If You notice both of the Master Vampires in both of those movies were bigger stars in other movies

 

Silly movie I liked. "Now You See Me". Then there was a second one and finally thanks to Xfinity giving me free Starz for a week I got to see the third installment last night. Now You See Me: Now You Don't. Silly stuff but kept my interest.

I'm convinced Morgan Freeman will be in at least 10 more movies before his time is up. He is frigging 89 and still kicking ass. He has been in over 100 feature films plus a ton of other stuff.

 

I keep hearing about Superbad. How insanely hilarious it's supposed to be. I tried watching it but just couldn't sit through it. It wasn't funny at all to me. Maybe I've outgrown that type of humor? I don't know which parts were supposed to be funny. To me it was just uncomfortable to watch and I couldn't root for any of the characters. I didn't care what happened to any of them.


I think next weekend I'm going to plan a 'B' monster movie marathon. Claymation monsters only. People acting in front of an obvious screen making the ants look giant. Something like that.

 

Superbad was a fun stoner movie. I enjoyed it when first came out but if I watched today I'd find the humor stupid.

I think the "B" movie will be cool to see for a few hours.

 

Off topic: Hey, have you seen the member forgotten1????? Can't recall seeing him in any threads recently.

 

The new Minions movie was beyond Bad; even my nephew thought it was stupid!

 

I have to admit I really liked Daybreakers. I liked it because it was just so different of a story with the Vampires being the dominant species and the Humans being the "Underground Rebels" of the story. Vampires are composed of all classes from the rich to the poor to the beggars on the street.

In the 2009 sci-fi vampire film Daybreakers, Willem Dafoe plays Lionel "Elvis" Cormac, a former professional car mechanic who accidentally cures his own vampirism via sunlight and helps modify muscle cars with UV screens and exterior cameras for daytime driving.
