Anybody else concerned about Pittman and Metcalf being out? We have had all these offensive installments, I believe 8. I’m sure they have missed some of these … how can they develop cohesion with Rodgers and be on the same page with all the time they missed? Same thing with Porter and Ramsey on defense.

I hope we’re not developing false hope with this team and offense in particular seeing our offense in preseason go against vanilla defenses. I feel like there is a lot of moving parts on offense right now with the oline reschuffle and new players on offense with a new system and injuries to arguably the two most important receivers on the team. Everyone is raving about Roman Wilson but in the game he had one catch. Does he truly struggle to get open against press man or was Rudolph just not looking at him?

inspite of the points we put up with two drives heavily assisted by the referee’s I’m still way more confident in this defense right now. I feel like it’s gonna be about three to four weeks into the season before you see the offense settle in and really start to produce.

Are they out of practice too? I haven't been paying as much attention to the injury reports out of practices.

I just assumed they were being held out of games. Which I don't think matters all that much when the QB is also being held out of games. But if they aren't able to work on timing and trust in practice, that might be bad.

    From what I've read:

    Metcalf:
    Injury
: An undisclosed/unspecified minor ailment that started after the "Saturday Night Lights" practice on August 8.
Practice: Sidelined from team drills and missing practice sessions, though he has been present on the field observing alongside quarterbacks.

    Pittman:
    Injury
: Pittman is managing a right leg setback sustained during an early August practice.
Practice: He has not been actively practicing or playing in preseason games.

McCarthy noted that veterans like Pittman and Metcalf are being handled with caution, with expectations they will be ready for the regular season opener.

    So, not the best news.

I think this is a way to protect the elders. They always have some type of “injury” that heels right after preseason.

Welcome to football. It’s a surprise when someone doesn’t get injured if you want to be real about it. Brutal sport.

For a team that had little contact in preseason it's surprising these guys are missing this much time. What happens when the hittin' happens?

Along with erroring on the side of caution so it does not linger into the season

If a game was today I suspect they would play

    Much ado about nothing

    Thanks for this.

My guess is that it won't be a huge deal with DK because he's played with Rodgers. Probably a bigger deal with Pittman IMO.

With all the OL movement, I was kind of already expecting a slow-ish start for the O. Wonder if we'll see a lot of passes to the TEs and RBs in the first few weeks.

Aside: I said this in the PS game, but I hope it doesn't take MM long to realize that we can throw to Washington too...he's not just a blocker.

I'm not concerned about the injuries lingering into the regular season so much as them missing time in the new offense, especially Pittman. They need to get on the same page with Rodgers.

They're both professionals, they will show up come game day.

Metcalf is a professional only when he keeps his head, but that's not my concern. My concern is the need for work in the new offense, and for Pittman to work with Rodgers.

Any updates on WR Brandon Smith for Friday's game.

A borderline player like Brandon falls into the "Can't make the Club from the Tub" group.

Smith best chance is the practice squad I don't see him making the 53.

The early McCarthy era in Pittsburgh is already telling. No live tackling in camp is one thing plenty of modern coaches have dialed that back for injury prevention and longevity, and he has openly said he’s “crossed that line too many times” earlier in his career and learned from it. The whole “tempered,” GPS-tracked, science-heavy approach is deliberate. But when the caution starts extending to the absolute minor stuff—the hangnails, the tiny nicks, the “day-to-day with a paper cut” vibe it can start feeling excessive.

I do not think the coaches should baby players this way. Mixing in a few live fire practices ( says just 3 ) in-between would be something I am for.

If that's true, it's not a very good way for Rogers to get his timing down with those guys.

Washington is a beast with a full head of steam. Saw some of it last season before he went down. I'll be pissed if they just use him for blocking.

WR Brandon Smith still not practicing. I guess this will crush his chances to make the roster.

Injury crushing Steelers camp darling's chances
I didn't know Brandon Smith had spent 2 years on Mike McCarthy's practice squad in Dallas. This definitely would have given him a head start over other Pittsburgh WRs that had never played in his offense.

You don't need contact for hamstring injuries. Those are the ones that worry me. They can be a problem through the entire season.
