One interesting note with LA is they started that TE trend we saw last season. Their TE room allowed them to run a ton of 13 sets, and then after they took Simpson they drafted that Purdue TE.

Looking at their depth chart they only have a couple good receivers (Nacua & Adams). So if they lose one I'd guess they just run more TE sets, which they did well with last season.

Though it is possible DCs change that result this year, after having all offseason to adjust to it. We'll see.

That's the point he won't be starting for another two years that's why you should draft somebody to help you win now.

I watched the Simpson highlights and its similar to Allar. A lot of dinks and dunks and then a few nice passes that actually traveled more than 10 yards.

Beck still had the most impressive outing this year but its one of the better first weeks for rookie QB’s.

But this is also why I say guys like Howard and Allar need as much thrown at them as possible in the preseason. Once the season starts we won’t see them again unless if Mason is cut and AR has a serious injury. Now is the time to put them in as many situations as possible to see how they respond under pressure.

How will Howard and Allar respond when they face blitzes and OL breakdowns like Mason faced against better comp?

    Or...

You build for the future while you can compete for the present. Don't forget that Puka Nucua is still there. Yes, DeVante is not getting any younger. However, given how much Sean McVay both increased his TE usage in 2025 and shall do so again this season given what has been seen in the Preseason tells me that he is preparing for life after Stafford. More over, he is pivoting towards more usage to Tight Ends.

Ty Simpson isn't starting this year. He is going to sit; barring something extreme. If anything, this is an excellent usage of a Top 15 Pick; protecting your future by having a contingency plan.

The rams offense had been great in the last 2 games vs Seattle last season...It was their defense the problem and they add Garrett and the former CB of the chiefs to improve the defense

Except there is no way to quantify that correlation as there is for Stafford being injured.

Still Davante isn't getting any younger and Puka is injured.

Its unlikely the Steelers will be bad to the point where they are in the high pick areas to have to make a decision on a can’t miss QB in next years draft.

Playing in the preseason is fine. But he is very raw and learning the west coast offense is extremely hard. The pressure this kid is already in after a measly second half preseason game is borderline diabolical. Everywhere I turn fans are going nuts and there are podcasts dedicating shows about him after one freakin game that didn’t mean anything.

On top of all that, being the QB of the Pittsburgh Steelers where there has only been two legit, in their prime, hall of fame and soon to be hall of fame QBs that have mattered in 93 years of existence. And on top of that from Penn State. I just don’t want the kid to have his confidence dashed if he gets in too early and he fails. Might never get to his potential that way. If he was a top tier QB that was picked high, that’s fine, but he isn’t.

If you’ve seen what’s happened to even to those top tier QBs who are picked high or teams gambling on the next big thing, more and more are failing and the patience of everyone destroy them to oblivion.

There is a massively large history of franchise QBs who sit the first year and become very good to great QBs. Especially ones that were picked in the 3rd round and beyond.

My instincts are just screaming to play this very easy. It could be the difference between the Steelers being title contenders in the next year or two, or constantly treading water with the QB position like the Bears for almost their entire existence, the Jets, the Browns, etc.

Especially at RB. A 3rd round pick on a RB is actually a pretty high pick. You're banking on that person becoming at least an effective tandem back, if not the outright starter. To miss on a player at that position with that high of capital is definitely disappointing

He had a guy that walked into the league as a top 5-10 TE in Warren for multiple years and also another good TE that is playing pretty solid in the NFL in Theo Johnson. He had some quality college backs and a good OL that saw two of those guys go in the top 15 in the NFL draft in Fashanu and Ioane (also a 3rd and a 5th rounder as well).

I get that comparing weapons against OSU is going to make any weapon group look bad, but its not like Allar played with trash players. He had better players on his team than every college team in the country outside of 10-15 teams, he just never had an awesome WR room. He also could've made his WR's look better.

Not trying to knock the kid, but I don't think his big game woes are solely on the fact that his WR's weren't great. A lot of it is on him too. Thankfully, he gets to improve as a player before he is put into a "big game" as a starter. If he gets a chance to start and rattles off a couple of wins, who knows what it can do for his confidence and maybe change that "big game bum" moniker into a guy that plays well in big games.

I'm an OSU guy and I don't care at all who turns into a good player... I just want one of them to be good for the Steelers. I hope that Howard and Allar continue to play well. It really makes cutting/trading Mason an easy decision. I think keeping 4 QB's in the NFL would be a colossal waste (especially with a number of teams only keeping 2 on their roster with a PS QB). It would be hard to take us seriously if we make that decision.

If Simpson turns out to be a stud QB, then Simpson was the right decision. Draft the best player, not the position of need. QB trumps everything else. They can trade for a WR if they need to at some point.
