McCarthy drafted Allar. Jury is still out on Howard. Let's see how those two and if double M can make either a starting capable signal caller first. No need to post up either Allar or Howard's tombstone just yet.

 

Agree, we shouldn't assume anything until we see some play from the both of them.

 

there are about 96 QB's in the league. somewhere there about. 9 he shows were benched. that is roughly 10%. isn't that like a 90% success rate? what really is success? SB wins are the goal. the top ranked successful QB's as far as the talking heads, have never won a super bowl. burrow. love. herbert. allen. jackson. goff. jones. daniels. prescott. mayfield. smith. nix. purdy. stroud. maye. murray. lawrence. ward. browning. penix. williams. are they all failures or not? what is their consideration of success?

 

I don't think it's any different than it's ever been. There are a lot of young QB's in the league and given the fact that the league starts rookies now where it never did before, you're going to see some falter, especially if they go to places like the Browns, the Jets, the Cardinals, the Raiders, the Falcons, The Saints, etc., etc.

 

I'm not saying it can't be done but it will be hard considering the Steelers won't have any extra picks next year.

 

McCarthy’s track record for developing QBs is excellent and so are his odds. The rest of the NFL? Not so much.

 

I hope the steelers will not be in the middle again...If they can't contend for the SB,need a down year,similar to 2003 to have higher odds to pick a young franchise QB

 

It doesn't matter if you don't draft the right guy.

 

The Jets, Browns, Dolphins are likely picking in the top 5 next year, the Steelers will likely have to give up a lot to move up in the 2027 draft.

 

Most QBs fail.

There just doesn't seem to be 32 humans who can be average to above-average QBs and the NFL level. The game is too fast for most people I think.

I don't buy the idea that it's teams failing players. I think that's the kind of hubris coaches and GMs fall for all the time. It's just that other teams can't pick QBs. I can do it because I'm special.

I think there are some things teams can do to help QBs not be terrible. For example, we got Kenny to a winning record despite him not being very good at playing QB. We even got Duck to 3-3. We could win with those guys. But we couldn't make them good at QB.

Because it's just really, really hard to be good at QB in the NFL.

And being good at QB in the NFL doesn't seem to be all that well correlated to being good in the NCAA. So no one seems to really know how to find that players that will be the best QBs.

 

I think the only way we don't draft a QB next year is if we are really impressed with one of the lottery tickets this season.

The chances that either of them becomes more than a long term backup are pretty low given where they were drafted (even high pedigree guys have at best a 50/50 chance I think).

If we think there's a good QB to be taken and we pass because of the 3rd and 6th round guys we have on the team...that's like of like the Browns picking a TE and letting Ben fall to us.

If you don't already have a long term starter on the roster (and we almost certainly won't), you have to take a guy if you think he has a chance to be a long term starter.

 

I think the real plan for these guys is for them to be competing to be the long term backup for whoever we draft next year. With some long odds on one of them being good enough to play regular snaps in the league.

We'll see I guess....

That will likely require them giving up their 2028 first round pick and much more.

 

Can't be wrong if they gave up a extra first round pick...If the steelers have a bad start(I think they will be fine but this is just in case),can't win meaningless game after that
