Why wouldn’t I take a camp seeding chart as fact before the first game?

All this means is at the moment Allar hasn’t passed Howard. That is a fact. If and when he passes him on the depth chart, that is when it will be acknowledged.

and unless he is a complete bust in camp he is making the team. I don’t think anyone on here is suggesting he will get cut.

I think Howard will play before Allar in the 1st preseason game because its how camp works. You have to work your way up the depth chart.

He made up his mind on Allar a long time ago. I think most fans on here want Allar and Howard to climb the depth chart quickly but don’t really care about the order or know when its going to occur.

 

Yes. But since there are 2 more preseason games I realize depth charts will change at some point after each game. They can also change before a game and when it happens it will be acknowledged.

No, but they are part of the process of evaluating a player.

A player who has terrible stats usually isn’t going to be elevated over a player who doesn’t. This goes for passing, blocking, tackling, kicking, punting, etc.

Not many HCs want to go into the season with backups without any experience.
So IMO either Mason stays, or they bring in another experienced backup.
HCs, and coaches lives , jobs, and legacy are on the line here. This isn't madden.
I will be very surprised if they don't keep Mason, or bring in a different experienced Qb.

Camp stats don’t mean crap. You should understand this. But stop posting lies.

 

I agree that camp stats don't mean much, and neither do depth charts as of right now.

 

The depth chart is meaningless, we already know Rodgers is 1 and Allar is 3, the only question is who sticks as number 2, Howard or Rudolph. Also whoever sticks as the number 2 does no mean they are next in line to be the starter.

 

A lot of arguing about a depth chart where, if anyone but Rodgers starts, this team won't get past 8 wins. We'll be talking about the draft in mid November.

 

Allar struggling shouldn't shock anyone. That said, it is due to consistency wrapped in recalibration oer his understanding of the fundamentals of the position. Fixing Allar is going to take a year minimum. Him getting Preseason exposure though will also do him some good.


He needs the reps.

 

I mean to me it's a lot like someone that knows how to play trombone suddenly being asked to play saxophone. You know what notes are. You know how to read music. But the mechanics of playing the instrument are way different. Too much thinking going on rather than just playing. I have to wonder whether Allar can really get to a reasonable playing spot in the timeframe the NFL demands. Game this week should give us an idea how far he really has to go. Depending on how the college season goes for this "QB class of the decade" the pressure might be on the org to make an early decision.

 

This is a last ditch effort season. If all the stars align, we might win a couple playoff games. If not, we have wasted another year without finding a future QB. (Thanks ARII) And even if all the stars align and we win a couple, we still will have no idea what we have at QB.

Wait for an early season injury and trade Rudolph.

 

Saunders thinks his play has been "jarring":

"There should not have been high expectations for Drew Allar coming into his first training camp, after the first move from McCarthy this spring was stripping down his footwork and fundamentals to the studs. That was a sure sign that the Steelers are considering 2026 to be a redshirt season for Allar, with a long lead time on the project of building him a more consistent passing rhythm.

That being said, it’s still been jarring to see just how erratic some of his misses have been. There have been highlight-reel moments, for sure. Allar has a fantastic arm, and when his delivery cooperates, he can bring some oohs and ahs out of the crowd.

But for me, these couple of weeks of training camp have shown that the Steelers have a lot of work to do with Allar, just because of how wayward some of his passes have been."

 

Struggling with the lay up passes. Translation; learning how to feather his touch on his passes. That is what I am taking from the reports.


That said, I use the term *struggling* loosely here. Why?! I don't know what Allar looks like. Gonna have to find that out in two days.
