well its more than about pretty passes. Its whos making the right reads, who doesnt get rattled when a play breaks down and can make a play. And who knows when to take a sack instead of making a silly pass. If Howard proves to be ahead in those areas what do you think McCarthy will do? (Justin Fields and Mitch also threw pretty passes)

i agree about MR, i think he’ll look better in this system than he has previously. He and one of the rooks will back up AR

sure, but hes got to show something in preseason at least, some good decision making abilities, maybe look better than Howard.

I know it’s very early in camp. The Steelers will only be on their third practice soon.But this much is already clear: Drew Allar is for real and he’s ahead of the perceived schedule. Anyone who was worried about his play under the incompetent boobery at Penn State under James Franklin or about his recovery — needs to understand this. He’s now working with a true QB guru as his coach (McCarthy), and our receivers are 10x better than what he had at PSU. According to reports, Allar is slightly ahead of Mason Rudolph and Will Howard. At least that’s what he’s shown in the first two practices (yes, small sample size). He’s throwing the kind of passes that create big plays and putting touchdown throws on the money. He’s hitting tight windows with accuracy. I hear not one of his passes hit the ground yesterday. Most importantly he is going for it, not giving the Steelers the check down variety.

Aaron Rodgers is unquestionably the No. 1.

But the real question is: Who is going to be the No. 2 when the season starts? Look for this: Veteran chatter. The players often know who can play after about four practices or so.

McCarthy has been saying they could keep all 4 QBs, Howard would have to look really bad in the preseason games to get cut IMO.

 

This will be Allar's red shirt year so he will be placed on IR with a strained muscle in his throwing arm or something like that. We will have the same QB room as last year Rodgers, Rudolph and Howard.

 

I won't be surprised if this is what they do.

But I hope they keep both young guys. I think the downgrade at QB2 is worth keeping two lottery tickets.

If we were more focused on the medium term, I think we'd cut Mason in this situation.

But I think we're primarily focused on making the playoffs (or at least not playing meaningless regular season games) every year.

I still believe Mike McCarthy's idea of keeping 4 QBs, is with Howard on the practice squad.

In 2024 McCarthy didn't even bring 4 QBs to camp. I don't know how rare that is to only have 3 QBs, as I always assumed you needed 4 QBs for Camp; maybe it just was a Tomlin thing, so he could give Ben his Vet Days off.

Understand this my fellow Steeler fan. We have a rookie in camp with franchise QB tools (arm talent, height, weight, and hand size) to mold. Allar is off to a good start in camp. So color me excited. Now JEH, keep your mind out of the gutter on my perceived man crush, okay?

Rookies make mistakes, but Allar showed me something.

 

From what Im hearing nobody looks close to what A. Rodgers still can do at his age.
This is why I keep saying in a training camp situation, not many starting Qbs could beat out Rodgers.

I disagree. I believe everyone that can stay in the NFL can get better until their bodies start to betray them.
Also I believe a very high percentage of being a good Qb is mental

 

They are obviously pushing a anti Allar narrative what with their accurate breakdowns and stats. It's clear that the Post Gazette has gone all in on thee Ohio State and will seek to keep a Penn Stater down.....

Just copy and paste the part of Allar throwing multiple interceptions on day one. That's all I ask. I am not registering just to read it.
