The injury to LeVeon Bell is an unfortunate blow, but me being the eternal optimist that I am (no comments from you, BF), I can see a way that it actually benefits the Steelers. Jonathan Dwyer should be our starter for roughly the first half of the season. Lets say he goes out there and has a lot of success running the ball behind the Steelers zone blocking scheme. He's capable of some good games so it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to average between 75-100 yards per game which would put him on pace for a 1,200-1,600 yard season. At that point, with Dwyer's value riding high, the Steelers could entertain trade offers. If we could get a third round draft pick in next year's draft I'd jump all over it. Parlaying a sixth rounder into a third rounder is a pretty good deal. We tried to trade him on draft day but apparently couldn't find any takers, but let Dwyer have some early season success and that may change.

Why are we writing off Bell for that many games? The absolute latest that he'll be back is the game after the bye week IMO and I have a feeling that it'll be much sooner than that. With that being said, I think we should have a decent running game until he see's the field again.

I'm not a big Dwyer fan, but if he does well why in the world would we want to trade him?

Because we should have some pretty good depth in Bell, Redman, LSH and Jones. It would be an opportunity to pick up a decent draft pick, theoretically anyway.

So you think we will be keeping 6 RB's total (including Will Johnson)?

Besides ... Redman, LSH, and Jones are 1-year rentals that might get offers elsewhere.

Sounds right to me. How many do you think they keep?

I have a hard time seeing them keep 5 RB's and will J.

dwyer had his chance last year. he had time the year before too. him getting to 1,000 yards has never been close. what makes anyone think he can this year?

I don't see where he will be the day one starter either. every back we have right now is a 1 year rental, except for bell, so signing someone before the season is out would be a smart thing me thinks. nobody has shown enough to make the team, make that kind of offer.

I see jacks point, but to ask our team to let a back start just to hopefully up a draft pick status is really reaching. to get a 3rd and having a 2nd sit the bench? very doubtful in my eye's and I would have to question the coaching staff and front office that would do that.

I understand where Jack is coming from ... if you have to play Dwyer anyway, he does well, and a good opertunity to trade him came along during the season (I missed that on my 1st reading) why not take it.

My biggest concern is really all of the constant changes year to year and the lack of any sort of sembelance of continuity on the offensive side of the ball. So, I am reluctant for them to get something that finally is working (even if it is Dwyer) and then immediately change/trade it.

LOL! Yeah, mac, I've already spoken with Tomlin and Colbert about that and I'm awaiting a return call from Dan (as in Rooney). ;)

Just messin' with ya. All I'm saying is that it may possibly play out that way. Not saying that's the Steelers strategy or anything at this point. By all accounts, they did try to trade him once so it's not beyond the realm of rational thought.

    Or is it!

That 6-8 week report was a rumor. Even Tomlin disputed that report.

I think some of these guys want us to fail just so they can say they were right.

I agree 100% Glenn. If Spaeth is out 8 weeks and he had surgery, there's no way IMO Bell will be out more than 4-6 and I would guess less than that. It's basically the same injury as Kirk Cousins and he hasn't been ruled out for the start of the season. It might be a little optimistic but I'm hoping for a return against Tennessee. Not betting on it but hoping for it for sure.

Until I see differently...Dwyer is the best back on the team.....Redman has more desire.....Bell has the pedigree....but since I haven't seen anything from them this year...Dwyer is the man.

Yeah, you're right. LSH has shown some promise as well, although i don't see him being much more than a situational back

One of the guys on the twitter feed said they saw him walking around without the boot, thats encouraging. I think he'll miss 2 games, tops.

:lolol: Well, it may benefit us but I think for different reasons. If he is out that long, it would mean fresher legs but I don't think he will be out that long. I'm also not sure how much confidence they have in Dwyer, someone made a good point about Jones, he and LSH fit the scheme better.

It's hard to disagree with that.

If the Steelers agreee, Dwyer should probably be inactive for Thursday's game. I recon we'll find out how highly they value him come Thursday.

And hard to argue with, given what Dwyer has shown lately, compared to Redman, but Redman hasn`t really had a fair shot to compete, and even last year, it was obvious he was playin thru injury...
Such a shame, that life ain`t fair...
What I`ve really been trying to figure out, is, just how bad is Bell hurt???
I`m seeing all kinds of different reports, and nothing I truly trust...
The closest I`ve seen to a definitive answer, was in an article about Jarvis Jones, in the Gazette, that had one sentence, saying Bell has a small ligament tear in his foot, and is expected to miss the first month of the regular season.
So I would read that as the first 4 games.
But, that is the only thing I`ve read that actually namd the injury... The prognosis of missing time, sounded pretty speculative... By the Author... Ed Bouchette... so WHO KNOWS?
Would LOVE to see Bell week one, but I`m doubtful...
    GO STEELERS!

Thats funny I thought I heard Red will be opening day starter, LSH back. Will be hard to find carries for so many RB's when Bell comes back? So who do they keep?
