Mike Golic Jr.

Has he been getting any playing time this preseason or is he injured. His dad talks about him being on the Steelers on his radio show on ESPN so I have wanted to see him play. His chances probably aren't good of even making the practice squad if he can't get on the field.

 

Haven't seen him play one play yet and watched all 3 games. If he played any it could not be much.

 

i keep looking for him, but it doesnt seem as though hes gotten any time in a game yet. kind of surprised he wasnt part of the cuts today. maybe they are trying to sneak him onto the practice squad by not letting him play. seems like an odd strategy if thats the case, but i cant figure out why hes not playing and then doesnt get cut.

 

I dont think he has played 1 snap during a game yet.

 

The whole thing with Golic is weird, and not playing.

 

could be a strategy if we had a lot good lineman but in our case if he is good i will make him play and a roster spot

 

im totally with you on that, but i cant figure out why hes not playing, but then he doesnt get cut either. i dont think hes hurt.

 

Only thing I heard on him is they were experimenting with him at RT early in camp and it wasn't really working out at all.

I don't think he has gotten much PT. I don't see him making the 53. He will probably be on the PS.

 

I just don't see why you pick a guy up and never look at him in a game? I admit I am a fan of his dad and think JR may have some good genes

 

I see we have a Long on the team too, is that 1 one Howie's boys? ( i know 1 is with the bears another with the vikings)

never mind just read the 3rd boy is a QB in college.

 

Joe is Jake's brother. No relation to Howie.

I can't understand the Golic thing either. Maybe we're keeping him because we want more airtime on Mike & Mike? Maybe he's our secret weapon and we don't want to unveil him until the regular season?

 

I saw Golic run off the field after an extra point or FG (cant remember which) when we played the Giants. It was only one time and I havent seen him since. I really like his dad and am pulling for him, too, but kinda hard to do from the sidelines.

 

The first round of cuts seemed to go straight to the point with some players. I like the fact we're not hanging around any more and waiting for Baron Batch to show us something, for example (and I had high hopes for him a few years ago).

They've left a fair few names on the roster who haven't seen too much playing time. But who knows with Golic Jr. As I've said a few times before, I've yet to see a report that says he's done anything noteworthy.

 

They're not using him. I didn't see much in practice of him either. He didn't look bad during the drills though.

 

My two cents: They see potential in Golic Jr. He's a project at this point, but he will likely be on the PS. Problem is, if they cut him now and/or expose him in preseason games, another team will pick him up. It could very well be that they want him around. So they're "hiding" him. He'll be amongst the last few cuts, so he would be likely to stay on with the PS.

 

I think the view is different if Embernate was not injured. I really think he makes it to the practice squad. There's no way they run out and grab him and Embernate that quick to not even give him a look in preseason.

 

I don't get the fascination with Golic around here. He's never impressed in college and hasn't done a thing around here since being picked up as an UDFA. Is it because his dad is on tv and radio? If so that's

 

we only have so many linemen left to play Thursday. malecki and beachum will exit fairly early to keep them healthy when the games start counting. golic will play with, long,whimper,hubbard,and madsen so this can happen. that's all I see happening with him.

 

Haha, I wouldnt doubt it if guys got wood due to his dad being on radio. It dont take much to whip up the Steeler Youth into a frenzy. One good Mel Kiper highlight or some spew or a post draft article that talks about POTENTIAL starter (great ability in COLLEGE), being a POTENTIAL steal (o we werent looking for him but had to taken him, he just fell from the sky) are like viagra for Steelers fans. How about a Scott Sheilds, Limas Sweed, Sean Spence, Cameron Heyward, Ziggy Hood, Maurcie Pouncey and many many others who the masses have waited or are currently waiting on to part the seas, all i can say is highlights is highlights- when they pick six plays that show you getting yours. Finding 6 big plays a guy does in college is not scouting. They grab guys who cant make the transition to the NFL. The Steelers scouting dept has basically missed way more than it has made contact in my opinion. Maybe they have FANS working there.

 

I think those of us that listen to Mike & Mike realize that Golic is our only hope in getting the Steelers covered on the show. Otherwise, it's all Jets all the time with some Pats and Cowboys thrown in for good measure!
