Are you asking about Arians? He has spoken about it. Spoke about how Tomlin said after the season had ended that he was safe. He even recanted how he found out that he wasn’t, Tomlin called him and said why dont you come in, we have to discuss some things and by now I guess Arians had an idea he wasnt being retained and said Mike if you are firing me just do it now and save me the trip.

To add to this from ESPN

"I got a call on Monday and [Tomlin] said, 'I can't get you the money.' I said, 'OK,'" Arians said. "He said, 'No, I can't get you a contract.'

"I said, 'Are you firing me?' He said, 'No.' 'Well ... it's just a matter of words, Mike. OK. If I don't have a contract, I'm fired.'"

This is not correct and it’s not a signature move. It is how NFL contracts and contracts of this type are done. Your contract expires and either it is renewed or not. If it is not in essence you are fired but it certainly is not avoiding saying he was fired.

Now Matt Canada was fired during his contract.

And Arians did say he was retired. I just read his quote. Then an opportunity came along that he liked and he changed his mind.

It’s how the Steelers handled their coaches. They would let contracts expire and then just move on and say they “retired”. It was absolutely their M.O.

Normally teams dont wait for contracts to expire, they just fire them.

Look bro, I am a founding member of the FMTI club from way back and love a good Tomlin bashing. That said, this has all been discussed, debated, argued, beaten up down and all around so much on this MB, that it is royally stale AF. That is the point that several posters have been telling you. Plus, he is gone and most folks are focused on the present and future that doesnt include MT. But you continue to double down that you haven't seen it all posted in one place. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it isn't here in the 15 years of threads and posts in the archives. Trust me, it's here. Not to mention, you don't seem to understand the difference between fact and opinion and also want to go at the old heads here. Its really a bad look, man.

My ongoing complaint about the Tomlin sycophants is how they twist themselves into pretzels with ludicrous spin and total bullsh!t to support their dumb pro-popcorn narratives. It's getting somewhat tiring and futile... but somebody has to fight the good fight and bring truth to light.

That's why I was shocked they fired Canada during the season.

They should have done this a year earlier, or at least in the 2023 offseason.

Probably have to wait for Rooney or Tomlin's bio before getting the whole truth. That's the way these things usually go.

I agree with most of this and now we get to watch MT 2.0 Mike McCarthy. Not a very aggressive move on making a coaching change. 9-8 here we go again woop woop!

See posts 176-180 above for accurate details

Tomlin did not force Arian’s out Rooney did

    Tomlin tried to retain him

And the Steelers did say he was going to retire after his contract was not renewed because he said so

In hindsight... Steelers should have promoted Arians to HC, fired Popcorn....hired Haley as OC... and looked outside the organization for LeBeau replacement when he retired. :icon mrgreen:
