Kenny Pickett

This isn’t the 90’s where a backup QB sticks around for 6 years with the same team and proves value.

As long as the check clears and you have a chance to play if a QB goes down you are no worse off in Philly, Carolina, Tampa, etc..

 

Pickett? Never heard of her.

But from the Eagles point of view, if Kenny is so good, why did they let him go?

I'll take some heat, I know but I really do not give a rat's ass! Pickett's reign with the Steelers was extremely hampered by Tomlin and his offensive genius gurus. We all know that. The Steelers have screwed with Mason Rudolph (same coaching gurus). I do not trust the Steelers with their fascination with Old Man Rodgers, allowing Mason Rudolph to flounder in no-man's-land in perpetuity, a probable screwing of Will Howard and an additional flirtation with Drew Allar. The Steelers' development of young quarterbacks is shameful. With Tomlin gone and his successor anointed the new Messiah, we will see what the football gods allow. I don't have too much hope. On that note.....HEY....Baltimore Ravens rookie Diego Pavia was just cut.....hurry Steelers....you could have the luxury of FIVE quarterbacks.....

 

Agree with this. Steelers should have moved on from Rodgers and old QBs. This would have been a good season to roll with Rudolph, Howard and Allar. Let the chips fall where they may. I don't see Steelers competing with the AFC elite this year, with Rodgers. There's been some good FA pickups and the draft was OK... but it's not enough to move the needle, IMO.

 

Explain how they have screwed Rudolph? He left went to the Titans and sucked .

I think every fan base ends up with a small group who worship the QB they draft. Even when that drafted QB isn't worthy of the worship. It's silly really. No different than any other position, in that any of these guys can bust.

If the Steelers had measured his balls, then they would have had what they needed to steer clear of him in the early going of the draft. Overdrafting these guys is never a good idea, and Kenny was not only overdrafted for what he is as a QB talent, but also his weak pocket presence was overlooked. Honestly I cannot think of a QB who succeeded at this level while looking like a scared rabbit from the rush.

 

You can count me as part of that group I guess.

I thought we should have brought back both Kenny and Mason and let them battle it out, rather than sign Russell Wilson.

I currently want them to go with Allar next year, so we don't spend another early draft pick on a 2027 QB. I am really hoping the Steelers don't spend multiple 1st round picks on a QB next year. I am not a big fan of Howard, and hopes he spends the year on the practice squad and returns in 2027 to compete for the backup spot behind Allar. Howard was on the IR most of last year, and that resulted in No practice time with the coaches; players on the practice squad get to actually practice. (FYI for all those that want the Steelers to fake a QB injury to put someone on IR)

 

Because their 3rd string QB played at least as well as he did.

Same as a 3rd string QB in every NFL organization Kenny has ever played for.

When he left the Steelers, I thought he'd end up being an average to above-average backup.

That hasn't been the case so far.

And I don't know how many more teams will take a chance on him if he doesn't at least hold down the QB2 job this year.

We'll see if he can out play Haynes King for that job in Carolina.

 

I do think Mason got the short end of the stick a lot.

But he did get a chance to be a starter when he left. He did not succeed in that role.

 

But he doesn't seem to have gotten hurt!

I'd imagine that the overlap of people who really like Kenny and people who are fans of Pitt is pretty close to 100%.
