Exactly! And the huge difference ..... Ben's negative impacts were outside the lines, Pickens was an idiot inside the lines where it hurt the team.

Do You just say things to say things??
Bill Belichicks recorded without Brady is 83 -104, and 1 playoff win, let me repeat that 1 playoff win.
Maybe next time do a bit of research 1st before just saying things. LoL

Im surprised he didnt put his dad on the list.

    Its a pretty bad list

Bradshaw, Staubach, Montana, Brady, Elway, Manning, Brees, Ben, Johnny Unitas, Mahomes, Marino, Steve Young,

thats my top 12, not necessarily in that order.

    rounding out the top 20

Tarkenton, Griese, Stabler, Randall Cunningham, Rodgers, Favre

If Ben had one more incident Dan would've been the one to make the decision to trade Ben.

Lets have some fun... I will bet that All-Pro WR George Pickens plays in a Superbowl before the Pittsburgh Steelers do!

    Any takers???

It is so funny last year there was a thread here that was basically Goerge Pickens vs THE ENTIRE STEELER WR ROOM, and because George was dominating every week the MOD had to shut down the thread, because all you cry-babies were complaining after every game that it wasn't fair. :lolol:

I see we are back to the lie that anyone with team-building or leadership experience will understand why Pickens had to go. It is truly amazing just how much is wrong with that statement. To start with, there is the ongoing disrespect shown to other members of this community by falsely claiming that those who don't agree with a particular poster just don't understand them. That is some seriously arrogant nonsense, and that's quite a statement coming from a guy with my ego.

Team building in some other field isn't the same as the NFL. Having different sets of rules for the more talented people doesn't work in most environments, but Jimmy Johnson built a dynasty in Dallas doing it that way. Many coaches have done it, but Johnson was one of the few to be open about it.

Anybody who understands leadership will see that the Pickens' troubles were, in part, a failure of leadership in Pittsburgh. Of course, he was a large part of the problem. He was wildly immature, and he still showed signs of it despite his outstanding season with the Cowboys. It was the sort of leadership issue that has haunted the team for years. It is the best argument for why the team could be better off with Tomlin gone. Earlier in his career, he was able to manage difficult players, with Antonio Brown being the best example. Over the last 10 years or so, Tomlin seemed to either lose that ability or lose the motivation to try. He just wanted to work with finished products, and many of the moves that were made based on that failing hurt the Steelers' talent level. Pickens was only the best example of that.

The Steelers have lacked for on-field leadership, too, in recent seasons. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Heyward lost some credibility in that locker room with his repeated contract issues. This isn't the locker room of the early 2000s no matter how much we would like it to be.

Good leaders in football know how to balance the need for elite talent and team building. The Steelers failed in that regard, which is what the poster in question really doesn't want to admit.

Getting suspended for his off-field transgressions didn't hurt the team?

The arguments for trading Pickens also ignore that the team paid such a high price in draft capital and cap space to replace him with Metcalf, a far inferior player who hurt the team with his immaturity in 2025.

LOL. I actually thought you were talking about DK Metcalf in that sentence. But then I thought, Is that off the field behavior, because the game was still playing, DK decided to leave the team and step 25 feet off the field to get suspended for trying to fight a fan.

A far inferior player? Thats massive hyperbole. At this point in their careers Pickens is the better player but not by a country mile.

And acting like one incident is the same as weekly drama is disingenuous.

But let me get this straight, the argument is then to have two immature underperforming players. Great plan.

Edit: Misunderstood who you were talking about there but point still stands, Ive seen that argument about DK being as much of a problem as Pickens.

Someone tell me again why the Cowboys didn't sign Pickens to a long term deal??

Did I use the phrase "a country mile?" I did not. Pickens catches the ball more consistently than Metcalf. If he isn't the best in the league at contested catches, he is at least in the conversation. Despite his size, Metcalf doesn't do that particularly well. Those two differences alone set Pickens well ahead of Metcalf.

It isn't one incident. Metcalf has a history of childishly losing his temper during games. As long as he showed up when it was time to play, people made far too big a deal out of Pickens' behavior on the sidelines. I do have an issue with him taking plays off and doing so in a manner that made it clear to the defense. That's where poor coaching and poor leadership came into focus.

Pairing Metcalf and Pickens might have worked very well. Metcalf's work ethic might have been a good influence, and his presence on the other side of the field would have given Pickens more room to operate.

That said, I am thinking more of the foolish decision to give up a second-round pick and a huge contract for Metcalf, then surrendering the better receiver for less draft pick compensation while replacing one selfish, immature receiver with another.

To be fair to Pickens, this is because of his agent....Jerry Jones don't want to talk to this agent, the same agent that Parsons had,so blame the ego of Jerry Jones for that!

Me too! And to be honest, I'm not even sure I can agree that Tomlin has a high floor. I think his floor looks higher because of the talent he had, achieving average results with above average to elite talent doesn't mean Tomlin could have done it with average or below average talent.

Or maybe the Cowboys, like everyone else, know that Pickens isn't done being an idiot.

If/when some fool hands him a check he will the idiot he is

And a buffoon somewhere will blame whomever the head coach is at the moment for not controlling him or my favorite “being too lazy”

Do suppose there is no trade for him is because 31 other teams do not want him

Do you suppose there is no long term contract because even the Cowboys dont want him for anything more than a one year contract

Keep in mind these decisions are being made by experienced men with leadership experience not bozos on a message board

This thread will go the same way

This page already already gave a soapbox for one of the puppets
