They’ll be the butt of jokes next draft, count on it.

Another reason not to be on the phone early telling a prospect you are taking him is so things like this never become public, what first rd pick wants to know they werent the guy they wanted most. Now everyone knows it was Lemon.

No one will remember it next draft. Unless you're still obsessing over it then.

I'm sure the Steelers would rather have had Fernando Mendoza than Max too. Poor Max must go through the rest of his life knowing there were probably 20-ish other guys the Steelers would have rather had than him.

For a long time after the draft, every single time I watched NFL Network or ESPN, Mike Garafolo or one of the other fixtures on NFL Network or ESPN made a crack about the Steelers interfering with a team trying to make a pick. I still hear the occasional comment about it in the media or someone mocking the Steelers.

It's not like Blast is making it up or running around with a bullhorn. He's talking about it on a Steelers message board.

You don't think other teams aren't going to make comments and hope the league takes action against them? They will keep mentioning it so that the Steelers are being watched and hopefully penalized for making a mistake now or in the future. You think other teams wouldn't love to see the Steelers lose a draft pick? It's called trying to get a competitive advantage

It will eventually go away, but people are going to be referencing it and making fun of the Steelers because of it for a while, and it will have nothing to do with Blast.

Really easy solution. Stop watching the NFL network and ESPN. it’s all upside.

Just once go running through a small town yelling at a bus as your girlfriend is leaving you and see if anyone in the barbershop ever forgets

If the player is that thin-skinned about it then he can either pout or use it as a chip on the shoulder to show the team he was the better player.
More embarrassing is an owner and GM publicly disagreeing on a pick (ref. BUF).

You are assuming this has never happened before with any other team, which is doubtful in the history of the draft.

You dont really believe that do you?

As far as obsessing, I didn’t bump the thread but Im not going to pretend it wasnt embarrassing as hell for this organization. Im far past the rah rah defend my team no matter what stage of my life, if they do something stupid, Im going to call them out.

Whens the last time you heard a team say, “yeah, we really had our hearts set on so and so but we feel we got a good player that was next on our board”

You dont, you get “this is the player we wanted all along” and they could have said just that this time with Iheanachor but they were stupid and tried picking a player before they were on the clock. Moral of the story, wait till you are on the clock.

    :hmm:

If people don't believe there is financial incentive to be made off of a Professional Sports Organziations gaffes, the Cleveland Browns are an excellent example. From going 0-17 to releasing a QB who was actually the answer at the position to trading a generational talent for another shot at the Mega Millions Lottery, the amount of content that can be made from just these three examples alone is comical. Pittsburgh is not Cleveland; doubly so in its sports teams.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a North American Sports Superpower; up there with the likes of the Lakers, Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers and others. If I am a content creator and I want to obtain as many views as possible, choosing on of these teams is only the start. When these caliber of teams have a major embarrassment?!

Don't believe me?! Brandon Perna of ThatsGoodSports recently made a video on how the Steelers have lost their way. It is one of his highest viewed videos of 2026.

In short?! @Blast Furnace@Blast Furnace is 100% correct; punishment by the League or otherwise. This type of error isn't going away anytime soon; if ever.

How would you know what I'm assuming?

Where do I mention anything remotely related to what you are saying I am assuming?

Exactly, and it's a fine point, but it sounds like pure experience on that specific point.

My thing is why do we care. If it doesn't cost us anything, why do we care about what they say?? It's like a man that runs his mouth before you step in the ring. Once the bell sounds, who cares??? If we win so what, and if we lose , I doubt it will be because we were on the phone with Mr Lemonade. LoL
