According to The Athletic, Aaron Rodgers initially thought his time with the Steelers was done when Mike Tomlin left. He said that he recommended Khan interview McCarthy for the job.

“I encouraged him, from an outside perspective, to interview Mike (McCarthy), not thinking that he even would, honestly,” Rodgers said. “Then when it became more serious, I was thinking, ‘Wow, that’d be a really interesting thought to come back and play with Mike.’”

I think he actually means it this time, or at least I hope so.

Yeah it was so exaggerated that McCarthy lost his job. That doesn't mean they aren't friends. This happens with band members all the time, and then later they get back together. You are around someone sometimes too much, and it wears on both people, and later you start missing what you had.

Steelers have made me sad since they didn't show up in the AFC Championship vs Patriots in 2017. I've been sad for a long time. :frown:

I think Rodgers will be fine as long as he doesn't push a blocking shed in training camp like Russell Wilson did .

When a player talks about retiring, he’s already retired.

Lost his job because he wasnt getting the job done.

Also people were using that “rift” as for a reason that Rodgers wont come play here.

I think it was a rift back then, but as I've said already. That doesn't mean they still weren't friends later, and I never once thought it would hamper him coming back. In fact after Tomlin left, I thought it would be the only reason Rodgers came back here

You still havent explained how that changes anything from Troys standpoint in regards to his mechanics of being able to block on the left side. His mechanics do not change whether he is protecting the blind side or not.

I don't mean to jump in on yous guys discussion, but I think you both have a point.
It wouldn't change his mechanics much You ar correct on this, but it could change the decision by His coaches, and any coach they faced, for scheme purposes.
Had he not had a left handed Qb , would they have started him at that side? Were they confident he could protect the blindside?? Again. I believe You both have good points.

And that is the single point

His playing LT for a left handed quarterback has already been clarified as irrelevant

It does not change a single thing he does

Some people argue nonsense just to argue and are wrong or they eventually move the goals so they can pretend to be right about something else

If he is our best player at LT he should be our starter at LT

It’s really that simple if you can comprehend simple facts

troy and mccormick and even frazier are familiar with each other. makes so much sense to keep them together. anderson, hoffman, mcollum are in a camp battle. for the backup center spot. hoffman and anderson play 3 positions but mccollum only center so far. doesn't mean he wouldn't be kept on the PS but unless he can add that part to his game he may be expendable. driscoll and cook are also probably in a battle but a little less so. cook should earn the swing spot at least. driscoll is valuable though. he can play guard or tackle. the more you can do.

I never said the mechanics of blocking on a particular play were different depending on whether he is on the blind side or not. They aren't different at right or left tackle, either. The difference comes with the frequency of those plays. Washington ran more plays to the left because they had Penix. That meant more bootlegs and rollouts to that side, for example. That meant Fautanu was blocking to the play side rather than the back side far more often. He has continued to do that as a right tackle in the pros, so moving to the left will be an adjustment.

Despite the old man's false claim to the contrary, that is relevant, and I'm sure you understand that even if he doesn't. I believe Fautanu can handle it and I think moving McCormick with him makes a great deal of sense. He probably is the best option at left tackle. Cook can play the right side, too. He has said he is comfortable with both. My larger concern, as I have stated repeatedly, is how poorly Fautanu played against some elite pass rushers last season. He will see more of them on the left side.

By the way, that is where this started, with my concerns regarding Fautanu's pass blocking, which will be a larger factor with him protecting Rodgers' blind side. Maybe I am making too much out of a handful of bad games, but right tackles don't face elite pass rushers as often as left tackles. At least twice when he faced one last season, they kicked his ass, including the playoff game.

I include that last part before the old man makes yet another false claim about goalposts being moved.

Id have to review what other games he looked bad against elite pass rushers but as for Houston, their defense made a lot of lineman look bad. I can cut him some slack on that one. I’d also think going back to the position he spent most of his career at would be beneficial for him.

Possibly, or, perhaps, he is best suited to the strong side of an offense. Now he is going to be pushed away from that by the selection of Iheanachor.

Go back and look at the loss to the Chargers. Mack abused Fautanu in that one.

AI missed by this much. Why does the Steeler helmet have the logo on both sides? Cool Pic though. :)

I wonder how old this pic is with Rodgers wearing #12?
