It's about time. Unfortunately, so much damage has been done. My daughter's friend(public school student) does not know what the word plural means or how many states are in the US. She is a freshman in high school.

I was at PT and a high school age girl was doing some therapy and the therapist told her to do it for 10 minutes

I looked up at the analog clock with the big hand and the little hand and thought here it comes

Then the girl looks at the clock bewildered and says “how will I know how long 10 minutes is?”

I’m cleaning out my house of anything I don’t use anymore and took almost my entire library of books to half price books

After going through them they gave me enough money to buy one beer at the gyro place down the street

Hard to believe that no one wants a fine hardcover first edition book on thermodynamics or astrophysics

I put no creedence to any budget constraints. Tomlin was THE man and getting paid well. Had he demanded a certain OC be hired and paid accordingly, he would have gotten that without much, if any, pushback. OC's are affordable compared to HCs salaries.

Many on here have noted and so have team reporters, that Tomlin liked comfort and I'd say he liked OC/DCs he could "control" and that wouldn't argue with him. He went for internal promotions and push-overs instead of going out and getting OC and DCs that would challenge him even override him (my way or the highway Coach T, choose).

Lol. If your thoughts and feelings are true, that means Tomlin won a lot of games doing it his way with bad coaches around him and players playing out of position. That's a pretty amazing feat for one man. Lol.

Some coaches rely more on coordinators to handle most game day decisions. Other coaches want to be the play caller for the offense or the defense. But coaches that act tyrannical with a just do what I tell you and shut up mentality do not last. So, some of each can exist in one coach, but no coach is all or none. Not for long anyway.

We certainly know that many (most?) coordinators he hired were average at best.

We also know that Rooney is more budget constrained than most NFL owners.

But this isn't to absolve Tomlin. I think he was the 3rd highest paid HC in the league. Selecting coordinators is the job of the HC. And not something we did well.

Now we'll see how MM does.

Slay isn't saying anything that most of us haven't been saying forever and a day......
When the middle of the defense is constantly open, you have to start looking at scheme...
Slay is absolutely right, but his problem is that he failed at the things that were under his control..... when you fail to do the things that are under your control, then your message about everything else will be ultimately lost.......no one will hear your truth and it only gets perceived as sour grapes

I know I've seen this. It's like because they have all this information at their fingertips that they desire to actually learn nothing now.

    I don't agree.
Example: We know Tomlin wanted to keep Arians, these are fact , and yet he was let go, and Haley was Hired.
Example 2: Nobody on the whole staff knew Canada as well as Rooney.
So it all makes me wonder how much pull did Tomlin have at hiring OCs.

This could be the case...another unknown.

Wasn't Haley also a family friend of the Rooneys?

Note [this part was edited in after STD rated the post] But if Butler is to be believed, Tomlin didn't let him make many decisions. And apparently took decisions away from LeBeau as well. I also think Austin was only really hired to be a yes man to Tomlin (just like how I believe Fitchner was hired to be a yes man to Ben).

Notice I said OCs. I don't think he had much say on who was hired at OC.
Also I find it pretty funny that our D changed a lot of things from each one of those DCs, what makes it even funnier is that a change came to the D with each DC, and yet was blamed on a HC that everyone says didn't change anything, and just believed in doing what we do. So with all that said , something is not adding up. Either Tomlin change the direction of the team D with each DC that was here, and therefore the talk that he never change anything, and just did what we did is totally a lie, or the DCs had more control than they say, but it can't be both because that doesn't add up to anyone that actually thinks about it.

Ben confirmed that Tomlin was the one that hired his staffing but thats nothing new, most coaches do that.

Rooney did step in and steer them towards Haley. Tomlin was going to keep Arians, he even told him he was safe, (straight from Arians mouth) and then Rooney got involved.

I think most would agree that what Tomlin did during the regular season was pretty amazing. He did it his way with some bad coaches included. He had a formula that worked in the regular season, playing not-to-lose, conservative offense.

But you also have to look at what he did in the post-season, which was pretty abysmal and embarrassing. His regular season formula didn't prepare the team properly for the post-season.
