He’s got a year under his belt, learning behind Rodgers, even if he hasnt stepped on the field, mentally he is further along than Allar.

Allar is being stripped down to bare nuts and being built back up, they arent going to want to rush that process. I believe 100% this is a redshirt year for Allar.

Even though I gave You a winner, there are still some fans like me that aren't Penn State, Ohio State, or little 10 fans, and will be rooting for whomever is actually better on the field. I just hope there is a actual competition. Well outside of Rodgers, if he comes back, and is rested, fresh and completely healed they won't beat him out. I say again only about a handful of starters could beat him out when he's fresh.

They’ve never kept 4 QBs, are you suggesting they should put Howard or Allar on the PS to keep a mid BU QB on the roster?

And if he kicked my dog he wouldnt have to worry about playing football anymore ;)

It is tough to accurately read that quote out of context. McCarthy could easily be talking about four quarterbacks for training camp and preseason, not the regular season.

Exactly. Allar has more physical talent, but he also has more work to do so he can properly unlock that talent. I guess it is possible that Allar dramatically exceeds expectations by overcoming his flaws quickly, but as you suggested, spending this season on the sideline learning seems to be the likeliest outcome.

Howard was the better college player. He has a year in the pros. That should give him the advantage in the short term even though Allar is the more likely of the two to become a quality starter in the NFL. I don't have a great deal of faith in either, but Allar has more upside.

I would love if the steelers they're doing the same thing the Saints did last year.

Start with Howard, and if he's not NFL caliber, make the switch at some point. It's to see what we get. If one of them becomes very good, that's wonderful, but if both are bad, it's a high draft pick for 2027!

But if Rodgers comeback,we will have no idea what we have with the 2 young QBs

    Here it is:

The Pittsburgh Steelers made waves by hiring longtime NFL head coach Mike McCarthy to replace Mike Tomlin, who stepped down this offseason after 19 seasons at the helm. One of the biggest reasons why McCarthy was hired to take over is his experience as a quarterback guru and offensive play-caller. He is one of the best offensive coaches of his generation.

The 62-year-old coach spoke with ESPN’s Brooke Pryor during the team’s rookie minicamp over the weekend and shared his vision for the Steelers’ quarterback room in 2026. In fact, he revealed how many quarterbacks he would like to keep on the final 53-man roster.

“Having three quarterbacks is ideal…Three is normal. Four would be awesome.”

Pryor noted how McCarthy said four quarterbacks with a smirk, as well. He could be alluding to his old quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who is likely to be the team’s starter once again in 2026. However, he hasn’t signed a contract yet.

Still, four quarterbacks make the most sense in this scenario. If Rodgers returns, he would clearly be the starter in perhaps his final NFL season. Then, it would make the most sense to have veteran backup Mason Rudolph be second behind Rodgers. To round out the quarterback room, second-year quarterback Will Howard and third-round rookie Drew Allar would also be there.

Two veterans. A starter, who can win a lot of games, and a backup, who has seen plenty of action and can be trusted to step in in case of injury. Then, two developmental prospects who can both learn from the veterans and the head coach.

At the end of the day, should he re-sign with the club, Rodgers is the best answer for the team at starting quarterback. Not only does he have the chance to link back up with McCarthy, who he spent 13 seasons with in Green Bay (2006-2018), but he also played great football last season, given the situation.

The four-time MVP and Super Bowl MVP recorded 25 total touchdowns and just seven interceptions, along with a passer rating of 94.8. While he wasn’t his 2011 MVP self, he was pretty valuable given the state of the roster. He was working with a makeshift wide receiver corps and had a struggling defense backing him up. If it weren’t for Rodgers’ consistency on the field and great leadership, Pittsburgh likely doesn’t win its first AFC North title in five years.

Heading into what could be his final NFL season, Rodgers may have the chance to yet again lead a contending team while mentoring the future with Howard and Allar behind him. Regardless of what happens, true NFL fans should make a point to appreciate his greatness one more time before they can’t.

If Rodgers doesn't return then I hope we do go with Rudolph because then in the 2027 draft we wouldn't have to trade up to get into the top ten picks. Our 5-12 record would already have us there.

Howard or Allar would likely win less games then Rudolph based on the lack of experience.

How do you figure? You think Rodgers comes back to hold a clipboard behind two kids?

If your insinuating an injury that would be highly possible.

OK interesting take but 0% chance AR is coming back to start the season and turn over the keys midway through what will certainly be his last year. Why the heck would he do that? If the Steelers actually presented that to him, which they wouldn’t, he would either retire or play elsewhere. Only way Rodgers comes back and we see the young guys is an injury.
