Now that the draft is over, it's time to see the undrafted free agents the Steelers sign.

I’m surprised no udfa punter to be camp competition for BillBurr Johnston?

 

Using our Hines Ward connection. Two of our UDFAs (Laith Marjan- 6'3" wr and Chamon Metayor- 6'4" TE) are from Arizona State.

 

That is pretty interesting. I think they probably liked those players, but after talking to Hines it solidified what they thought about those players and they signed them.

Of course...money talks, so they had to present an offer to those players that was beneficial to them.

 

Chamon Metayer was ranked 309 on ESPN. Marjan wasn't in the top 400. Pretty sure "Come play play football for us and we'll pay you a pittance for two months" is enough of an offer for these guys.

 

looks like we have several safeties that can be used around the LOS. elliott, castro and boykin. possibly why they didn't get a move LB. this defense could look quite different than what MT ran and how players are used in certain situations. above and beyond the we do what we do.

 

why did he go undrafted?

 

I don't know a blessed thing about any of these guys. But I do know that with the departure of Boykin, Pierre, and Heyward the Steelers have a lot of snaps and high profile Special teams roles to fill.

These body types seem like possibly attempts to do that.

Boykin has a chance to make the team. He was very productive for the national champs, he can play slot or either safety position. A 4.62 forty dropped him out of the draft but he had 2 picks and a forced fumble to go along with 59 tackles last year for the Hoosiers.
