The first three rounds were iffy, at best, given the picks the Steelers had. This is just terrible. This is the kind of guy you grab with one of those seventh-round picks.

Unless Rodgers gave McCarthy a “grocery list”?

Maybe he wants a “Wes Welker” type to throw to?…only thing I can think of…Otherwise, this was a waste.

I like the pick. Not from a WR standpoint, but as a ST return specialist. We might have taken Zachariah Branch if he'd been available instead. Wetjen is a great weapon in the return game.

He wasn't even a good receiver in college, so there is no reason to think he can be a Wes Welker type in the pros.

This pick drives me nuts. There were solid linebacker options still on the board. Louis would have been an excellent selection in this spot, but they wasted it on a guy who should have been taken in the seventh round. WTF?

This looks to me like a draft they screwed up on day 1 and have never recovered from. The only legit player at the right spot was Germie Bernard, the rest are reaches, headscratchers, and guys they could have picked later, or should have taken someone else.

Would have preferred a LB here as well. You can find returners without giving up a fourth round pick. Maybe this guy turns out to be truly special, but I don’t like this.

I'm amazed at the number of pro scouts and GM's posting here.

If he returns one TD next year to win a game he'll be worth a late fourth round pick.

It doesn't take a pro scout or a GM to know that wasting a fourth-round pick on a kick returner was stupid, especially when there were so many useful defensive players still on the board.

Let's hope he's not Dri Archer 2.0. Steelers do need a KR/PR that can get more than 2 yards on a return.

I think it’s more about the increased value of the kickoff return under recent rule changes. Did we overvalue the impact of kick returns?

Ha! As I typed this, one of the NFL Network guys just called Wetjen his favorite Day 3 pick so far, and because of offense not special teams.

Desmond Reed could have filled the return option for Steelers much later than this pick!

Bingo! The Steelers are in the bottom five for kickoff return units. If fixing this is part of the plan, drafting the best returner makes sense.

I hope I am completely wrong, but it's hard to look at these last 3 days and the ammunition we had and look at what we got and be optimistic about it.

I kinda disagree. The only pick I’m not really sold on is Allar. I think that should’ve been a ILB or S… but we’re okay at S for a year and we at least aren’t worse at ILB than we were the year before. We have two potential immediate OL starters, a really nice slot WR, a a punt/kick returner (with a developmental plan at slot WR), a developmental corner, and a TE/FB/ST player. That’s really not a bad look imo

It could have been so much better, especially on defense.

I'm not sure they are okay at safety for 2026. I like Brisker, but the other options are all question marks. Elliott is coming off a major injury and has struggled to stay healthy his entire career. Ramsey looked lost far too often at free safety. The other guy they signed is a backup. Even if they get lucky and Ramsey takes a huge step forward with more time to transition to safety or Elliott actually holds uip, but those are band aids. They had opportunities to add a long-term option. Thieneman would have been a better option in the first. They could have gotten Scott instead of Everette. They could have taken Louis and converted him instead of wasting a fourth-round pick on a kick returner. They could have taken Kilgore instead of trading down. Any one of those moves, or a combination of two of them, would have been much better than what they did.

He would have been available in the 6th or 7th round. I like the player, but he was taken far too early. Did the Steelers panic again?
