Come on Khan this tackle was projected to go in the second round, and would've still been available if you traded down .

We don't know where he would've traded down to, or for what, but it sure feels like a trade down was a better option than reaching for a huge project that isn't worth the 21st pick.

I would have picked a WR myself…our two starters are both almost 30.

    I seen this too
12 picks you had leverage to make things happen
Apparently they got the player they wanted

We need a left tackle because our previous first round project pick with lack of experience playing the position, Broderick Jones, busted.

So we take a right tackle project pick with a lack of experience playing the position? Except this one has 33” T-Rex arms?

    Awesome.

The kid may end up being a yellow jacket in 20 years, but I don't understand why they picked a raw RT when they have a good RT that's young himself. I mean, it'll be interesting how they use Fautanu moving forward.

Fautanu will be our LT…I pretty much expected this to eventually happen.

Wide Receiver may be the deepest talent pool in this draft. There are plenty of good wide receivers still available.

I don't believe anything Kahn says.. I think after tonight's draft I believe Tomlin had more power in the draft room than some believe... At least made most the decisions in draft room

I thought for sure they would pick Cooper. Iheanachor was a surprise.

Good job of staying put. We have a ton of picks. They got a great player.

I guess the Steelers don't consider having short arms a liability when drafting an OT in the 1st round. Just like they didn't think having 8 inch hands would be a liability when drafting a QB in the 1st round.

Bit of a reach, IMO. Hope he turns into a stud. But as others have pointed out, almost certainly could've traded back a few spots and still taken him.

    You are likely correct.

Play your best lineman at that spot. That said, what will the learning curve be like for Troy. Remember he started out his NFL Jounrey as a Right Tackle even though he played Left at Washington. He is two years removed from that spot from his College Days.

James Campen will have his work cut out for him.

The Steelers seem to love putting square pegs into round holes, so I wouldn't be surprised if Iheanachor is our starting LT this year.

What’s square peg in a round hole about Ihenachor? A big guy who has great feet and is a good athlete makes a lot of sense at LT… or we can move Fautanu, who has played LT before.

So, rumor was that the Jaguars were looking to get into rd one. They were offering a trade that included Brian Thomas Jr. If this is true ... I would've jumped at this opportunity. We really dropped the ball in the first rd.

I'm just saying that Iheanachor only played RT in college. I mean, why not draft a LT that has actually played the position before? Maybe Iheanachor can make that transition, but you're basically expecting a guy to play a new position. Reminds me when they drafted the guard Kendrick Greene, and tried moving him to center. We saw how that worked out, that's what I mean about their tendency to force a round peg into a square hole. If they figure that they'll move Fautanu to LT, and play Iheanachor at RT, then drafting Iheanachor makes sense because Fautanu was primarily a LT in college.

    1) the team hosting the draft should never trade out of the first round. That’s like throwing a party and not show up

    2) Patriots traded up to grab Lomu. Both Freeling and Miller were drafted before pick 21. There was a real run on OT and there’s no guarantee that Max or a top OT would be available in the 2nd. After these guys it’s a huge drop off at OT.

    3) there’s a probability that a guy who never took a regular season snap starts for us at QB. If he’s to succeed, he needs to be protected. Thomas, Metcalf and Pittman means nothing if Howard is scrambling for his life. Just ask JJ McCarthy who had Jefferson and Addison but no protection
