How many have said we can only win if we have some losing seasons so we can get high draft picks?? Take from that what You will.

You forget that Blount was in the car. (They both got arrested for possession.)

I don't have any evidence, but I'm guessing Blount was the one encouraging Bell to smoke while driving.
Probably was the one who told him that you couldn't get a DUI for smoking.
(Bell was the impressionable younger player who was supposed to learn good habits from the mentoring veteran. I can blame Blount for later events if he was the one who started the ball rolling.)

We need a losing season so we can draft a franchise QB in the top 10 of '27 draft. This year's draft sucks for QBs... but next year's draft will be awesome.

I'm all for letting Howard start from week 1. Who knows... maybe he'll pull a Roethlisberger and win 15 games in his first season and we'll be drafting around 30 in '27, while having our franchise QB. It's a win/win... losing season with Howard or Howard shocks the world.

Time to roll the dice. :smiley1:

No, I didn't forget that Blount was in the car. Bell didn't have to listen to him. Blount may have had some influence on him, but Bell made his choices. That's on him.

Then why didn't Bell learn from DeAngelo Williams who was here for the next two years after Blount?

By his 3rd year in the league, an older and more experienced Bell wouldn't be as receptive to mentoring by Williams. Any bad attitudes he picked up would be more ingrained into his thinking.
I remember reading articles at the time that part of the reason to bring in veteran backup RBs like Felix Jones and Blount were to mentor Bell on being a professional in his first two years, when he was an impressionable 21 and 22 years of age. Jones was unimpressive (184 yards rushing for the entire season then gone), and we saw what type of character Blount had.

Not saying that Bell doesn't bear responsibility. Maybe he would have always turned out the way he did.
I was saying that having Blount around, like Palpatine to Anakin Skywalker, didn't do him any favors.
(Are you implying that Blount was a good influence on Bell?)

Remember when Hines Ward was going to hold out in preseason for a bigger contract? He had veterans who gave him the right advice on what would work better.
If Ward had a prolonged hold out and if that soured his relationship with the team and the fans, then he woudn't have had the same career path.
IF Williams was brought in a year earlier, and Blount was not, that might have been enough to nudge Bell back to a better professional attitude.

No , I'm not saying he wasn't an influence, what I'm saying is I don't see how just a year later DeAngelo wasn't. You also win points for the Palpatine Anakin reference. LoL
