Maybe it's McCarthy's choice and wants to get a look at Howard as QB1.

They should have Rodgers announce a draft pick if he's coming back :hehehe:.

I saw Tom Pelissaro on the NFL Network say it this morning. It's been discussed all day on 93.7 The Fan. It's not like the Steelers have named Howard the opening day starter but he is the one taking first team snaps in mini camp.

Well you know what you have in the other quarterback (apparently not being named anymore :smiley1:)

May as well see what you have in Howard

Yep, it is being reporting that Will Howard is taking some 1st team reps. Having your QBs split time in drills is kind of what you do when you only have 2 QBs on the roster.

Right now, I think everyone is taking 1st team reps as there are only 2 QBs on the roster. I still don't think this makes Will Howard QB-1. I remember when Mason Rudolph joked about being QB-1 a few years ago, as he was the only QB currently under contract.

I am by no means a football expert, but when I see Ty Simpson highlights…I see a lot of what Will Howard can do…I don’t want them to waste a pick on a qb this year.

They’ll pickup a vet (journeyman) if AR doesn't sign. Itll be the vet/AR, as the starter, then the winner of the Howard/MR duel. I highly doubt Howard is starting week 1.

Getting flashbacks to Picketts beer chugging. Hope the popularity has a better result this time!

We already have Mason. I'm not sure any available vet would be much better.

But I think we'll get AR on a timeline that's similar to last year.

IMO, Rooney is only making himself look bad by talking about timeline. I think he did the same thing last season, right?

Cooper Rush was just released by the Ravens last month. Rush would already know McCarthy's playbook backward and forward.

Is Cooper Rush and Improvement over Mason???

"The crap that Aaron Rogers does"
Well, he's 43. He's played a lot of great football. He's probably going to the HOF. etc.
More importantly, he told the Steelers that no decision will be made until X date.
Perhaps he's talked with Mike McCarthy like Tomlin, he said I'll be there but not until X (if you sign the contract too soon, you're subject to camps and fines for missing those)

    On the other hand.
The Steelers can easily say, "We need you under contract and you don't have to attend those camps"
    or
    "Go fly a kite."

The QB situation in Pittsburgh is dismal.
Anyone, anyone at all that thinks Mason will have a miracle comeback is in for some rude awaking.
The other folks are over optimistic about Will Howard. But at least he has the unknow behind him since he spent all last year not playing
    I don't subscribe to Kaboly's critique. I think it's lazy journalism.

The proof will come on the field.
If Howard cannot overtake Mason for #2 during Aaron's absence, that's a problem and we are in trouble.
Howard has a new staff and one that seems open to him and he must come out of the gate at his best.
He gets a little shot this week which benefits the Steelers too.
Mike gets a little bit of first-hand look at Howard and hopefully they've marked their draft charts accordingly.
If Howard looks rough and the ceiling looks low, they are going to have to draft a QB. (in my mind, they are not going to use 12 picks.. they will trade maybe back into the 3rd to get a QB.)
That gives them 4 QB's to look at with Mason and Howard fighting for a roster spot. The focus is not Aaron Rogers, as 1 of the 3 backups will likely be making some starts with Rogers starting.
If Rogers doesn't return, you're probably going to have to sign Jimmy G and still draft a QB and pick the best 1 from the 4.

    Strike two for you.

You're cupboard of replies must be barren.

You get one more attempt at something interesting...then strike three!

Rodgers will do a mini 'Seven Weeks in Tibet' in some retreat, meditate, inhale incense, then come back, make some comments, then announce his decision on the Pat MacAfee Show.

Whatever. I am fine if he doesn't come back.

I more care about seeing Howard in preseason with #1's and draft a lower round project QB. This team need to draft a QB every year until they find the one.

Rush was trying to run LJ's offense. Rush was much better at running Prescott's offense. Obviously.

I think it's pretty apparent that the team DOESNT WANT to start Mason if Rodgers doesn't come back. I would assume we would draft a QB and have all 3 battle it out for the job with Howard in pole position to start camp. They will hope that one or both outperform Mason and keep Mason around as vet leadership and depth. If Rodgers DOES come back, I think camp will make a determination as to whether or not Mason even makes the team. If we draft a guy, then I would say they are the safest bet to make the roster as QB3/development at least. Howard could prove he belongs as the back up and kick Mason to the curb OR he could prove to be a bigger project and maybe get stashed on the PS.

I fully believe Rodgers will be back. If he doesn't come back, I'd prefer to see Howard or a rookie start over Mason.

Funny many on here told me , and others that whole Rodgers thing was a Tomlin thing. I guess he's still running the show even though he left. A whole bunch of You are going to realize a bunch of what you thought was Tomlin wasn't.

they (Rooney and AR) may have a behind the scenes gentleman's agreement. Otherwise, i agree it doesn't look good.

Two QBs might battle it out. There is no way a rookie from this QB class will win the starting job. If he does, then the QB room needs flushed.
