Shortly few years after that book came out a friend of mine grabbed it off my table and read
I'M OK (awk) YOU'RE OK (awk)
yes it's a location joke yes
but we was stoned at the time and the way he said it i blew snot laughing
look on his face was classic
    haven't said OK properly since
    :lolol: still tickles me today
Years later same friend grabbed the The Hite Report off my bookcase.
He thought he was settling into a book about the Warren Commission.

Your bookcase sounds wild. I do think both Hite and Warren would support a “magic bullet”. Just different.

    I liked his dog

Good lord I went to a Willie Nelson Tribute concert last night that wasn’t half bad

But it was set in the woods of North Western PA in a large area fenced in area and dog friendly

It was like walking around in a dog park

I’m going to have to bring mine sometime

I get the frustration, man. Steelers defense has been a sore spot for fans the last couple years, especially in situational spots and red zone/goal line. You're not alone in calling out the predictable looks, personnel mismatches, and what felt like stale schemes. Let me break it down based on what played out. Goal-line and 2-down lineman stuff which is coaching stupidity. That "light box" or undermanned front on short-yardage/goal line has burned us plenty. It screams "run us if you want," and opponents often did, especially when the Steelers couldn't force obvious passing downs consistently.

It contributed to those "they score more often than not" moments.

Patrick Queen on 3rd-and-long Queen's coverage reps are tough to watch. While he can be a thumper in the run game,( that is when he is not missing nearly 2 tackles a game ), but coverage wasn't his strength—opposing QBs and coordinators picked on it in obvious pass situations like a red headed step child. Keeping him in on 3rd-and-5 instead of subbing a true nickel/dime package or better coverage 'backer/safety looked like schematic stubbornness. I call it what it is. Coaching stupidity. Queen himself has talked about scheme frustrations and communication under the old staff. Tomlin, coordinators, and situational football. He is right.

Tomlin's clown Austin as DC drew heat for his outdated defensive schemes against modern spread offenses, and yes, Tomlin has been accused of running a "yes men" staff with limited play-calling input from coordinators at times. I read that Tomlin basically ran the defense. The gum-chewing sideline shots became memes for a reason—fans wanted more visible adjustments. His cover 2 and zone concepts from the early 2000s era got exposed by RPOs, motion, and quick game in the two decades ago! At least I think so. Situational awareness (3rd down, red zone, 2-minute) lagged behind some peers who game-planned tighter. What actually happened after the 2025 season, Mike Tomlin stepped down with a signed contract. Color coach shades gone. The rube has not won a playoff game in eight years. He did not even say goodbye to the fans on camera.

The Steelers moved on to Mike McCarthy as head coach and Patrick Graham as the new defensive coordinator. Teryl Austin's contract wasn't renewed. Gee I wonder why? Now Graham has not distinged himself as DC yet with Steeler talent. And we have talent on defense But he is a new man with a different voice, potentially updated coverages, and more aggressive sub packages. Whether it translates to fewer WTF moments will show in 2026. We shall see. I said before I except us to move up five nothces in the " stats " departmet in terms of years surrendered and point against. A mild improvement. Dick Lebeau he is not.

A guy I worked with who is an AA member came into my office and asked if there were periods of time I couldn’t remember?

    I said “yes, the 70’s”

He dropped his head and said “I meant something smaller”. :smiley1:

I used to say that all the time. Especially at a time when leading with the helmet was a constant point of conversation in the NFL.
