Weren't we puffed up about the FA class last season about this time?

I'll say the same thing now for consistency when somebody posts an article about the Steelers having a D+ draft next week. Who cares what the pundits say? We'll find out when they get on the field.

For my enthusiasm, I hope its not a D+ and "what were the Steelers thinking" summaries. I don't want a bunch of reaches in every round.

Hoping, even if it means nothing, we see a lot of A, A- and B+, and something about good value with at least two picks in day 2/3.

Sure it's nice to get all those A and A+ marks, but they're pretty meaningless. Most of the "experts" have a herd mindset and none of them have enough insight into what all 32 teams are doing to understand many of the picks. Some picks may be easy for everyone to see they'll be disastrous (Kenny Pickett...WTF????) but football is such an intricate team sport that if you can't sit in on the FO meetings, the player interviews, the private workouts etc then reaction to the draft is mostly superficial (I've graded this player and this team could use a player at this position) instead of informed (the team is looking for this skill and worked out the player to see that among his strengths are these exact skills they want).

Grading then becomes about ego - I graded this player to be better than that player. If they drafted the player I like more, regardless of exact fit, then it's a good pick x 32 teams who I haven't interviewed in depth.

How did they get an A ranking in anything, when the Steelers still do not have a starting QB?

I think a grade of I, as in Incomplete would be about right, so far as free agency is concerned.

Brice I’m going out on a limb here and predicting someone will start at quarterback

And what does a starting quarterback in September have to do with a FA thread now

I hope you are not suggesting they should have signed one of the FA quarterbacks

I hear you. It's nice to hear others saying you killed it in the draft.

The problem is getting A's and A+'s from someone with bad evaluations of players doesn't mean squat. The only thing that really matters is what those players they pick do over the next several years.

I would rather get a D grade today and laugh at the people who gave the team that grade when a couple of the players they criticized are solid starters or Pro Bowlers in a few years.

Results matter, not grades. I'm sure you understand that, but it has to be said.

Yes, I wanted them to sign a free agent QB with a high Ceiling. Trey Lance
Yes, I wanted them to trade for a QB with a high Ceiling. JJ McCarthy.

The Steelers currently only have 2 QBs on the roster, and I really don't like the looks of them at starting QB. Current Grade has to be an F.

Speaking of QBs, I wonder if Cooper Rush would answer a phone call from Mike McCarthy; Cooper was released by the Ravens last month. The question is... Would Cooper Rush knowing the playbook, be an improvement over Mason?

    • Cowboys Tenure: Rush spent the majority of his career under McCarthy in Dallas. When Dak Prescott was injured in 2022, McCarthy stood by Rush, highlighting that he "doesn't get rattled" and has great confidence in his abilities.
    • Strategic Trust: McCarthy consistently named Rush as the starter during injury spells, emphasizing his instinctiveness and "scout team" work ethic.
