Welcome aboard! The Steelers FO must have seen something in Jones to take him when they did. I liked what I saw last night, without the drops his stats would've been better and he has nice mobility. Seems like a smart kid too.

Didn't the Giants take Nassib, either just before or just after we took L.Jones?

His draft status, investment, age, ceiling etc. He was a developmental pick and he's shown marked improvement from the preseason opener.

JPW is a camp arm. There's a reason he has seen so many training camps.

Welcome aboard............. This is my roster and not one that is predicting what the steelers roster really will look like.

Even if Landry is gone by the 6th or 7th rd there were other QB's available. I just don't like the pick.

The way our O-Line is currently playing though, I'd still have Charlie's, JPW's, and 2 other QB's numbers on speed dial.

I agree with draft status, age, ceiling and even with him being a developmental pick.
Marked improvement from preseason opener I disagree with.

JPW might have been a camp arm but so was Curt warner and Tony Romo.

If your season depended on winning the game and you only had Jones and JWP who would you play.

I know this was directed to TTF but I'd be more comfortable with Jones..

Oh...I thought this was more of a roster prediction.

I wasn't a fan of the pick at the time, but it is what it is and hopefully the coaching staff can mold him into a starter someday...to trade for future picks. ;) Who knows though, perhaps he'll be the future face of this franchise. I doubt it strongly, you never know I suppose.

I noted on my roster the steelers would probably keep Landry over JWP.

I was actually ok with the pick when it happened because I knew little of the remaining QBs and was simply trusting the FO. I just don't see anything good about him right now. Bradshaw stunk it up when he was drafted and his 1st few years and look how it all turned out. Hopefully Landry proves me wrong.

Pretty good original post, only 4 things I would really do is put in Jones at 3rd QB even though he is soft like pudding, drop Gay and keep someone with some ability that just needs experience instead of keeping the experience with no ability and cut 3 of either Foote, Cotchrey, Hood or Foster, start with the rebuild now and get few more young guys in there- save money in the process. Also Wordis and Redman gots to go

Thanks, glad to be on board, always been a reader of the board and the old website board! I do believe there will be a long grooming process for Jones, no way could he been thrown into the fire. Would have rather taken Matt Barkley personally, but I will give him a yr or two before I make up my mind.

I can see why Cajun would rather have the more veteran player in JPW over Jones, but I think a couple things will prevail.

    1. Jones was drafted, JPW wasn't.
    2. Jones is in his first camp, JPW his 5th.
    3. Logic will make the choice.

Now let me explain some things.

First, the fact that Jones was drafted, and in the 4th round no less, makes him a really hard cut.

Second, if you make the assumption that the 2 QBs have played to a draw, Jones has more upside.

Third, Logic. Again let's just call them equally bad. The logic here is Jones if cut is gone and will never make it to the PS. JPW is never going to be signed by anyone, so if you truly feel like if the situation arises where you need your #3 QB to play, you could simply bring him back and put him ahead of Jones on the depth chart.

    Good post, just a FYI:
    Being a 4th round pick isn't all that it's cracked-up to be money-wise ...
JWP ...... salary would be $630k/yr
    L.Jones .. salary would be $518k/yr

When you factor in his 439K+ signing bonus, you're actually looking at $649,805/yr for Jones. Not that APY is really meaningful. Signing bonus money is where it's at. JPW of course has none.

Spotrac has L.Jones at a base salary of $405k and a signing bonus of $109.8k for $514.8k total.

Without looking at that page, that number is the prorated bonus for this year alone. His total guaranteed signing bonus is $439,220, which they likely list on his player page.

I've read your comments and I feel maybe I should replace ILB Kion Wilson with ILB Vince Williams. I still like how Kion is playing but Vince has much more upside. That means Nick Williams is added to the PS and if he is signed by another team I'd put Isiah Green (CB) there.

I made a roster mistake!!!! Spaeth is NOT eligible for the PUP, its 53 or the streets, so he gets put on the Roster and McCoy hits the streets. I like Palmer, better blocker, receiver and STer than McCoy and David Johnson.

This is not a Steelers roster prediction- its how I would build it so JWP stays over Landry---depending on how he performs the last two games. Ties go to Landry, so JWP must noticeably outplay Landry which I think he has and will do.

Thanks for all the comments, I do value them whether I agree or not.

This is where I am at right now.

    Offense - 24

QB- (3)- .. Big Ben - Bruce Gradkowski - Landry Jones

    RB-(4)- .. Bell, Dwyer, Redman, LaRon Stephen-Howling

    FB-(1)- Wil Johnson

TE-(4)- Paulson, Michael Palmer, Johnson, Heath (I think they activate him and hope to survive the first few weeks without him)

WR-(5)- A. Brown- Sanders- Wheaton- Cotchery- Justin Brown (I would have loved to have seen Moye or Woods make it as well, but we just don't have the roster space for it.

OL-(7)- Adams-Foster-Pouncey-DeCastro-Gilbert-Beachum-Malecki (Risky, but I think unless we find someone on the waiver wire, we go into the season with only 7. No one else deserves it, and Whimper can always be brought back after week 1 if someone gets hurt. It even saves us money.)

    DEFENSE- 26

DL-(6) Hood-McLendon-Keisel-Woods-Heyward-Ta'amu (I would love to see N. Williams or Arnfelt, as I think they have looked good, but I think they both may end up on the PS)

LB-(9) Woodley, Timmons, Foote, Worilds, Jarvis Jones, Adrian Robinson, McFadden, Sylvester, V. Williams

CB-(6) Taylor, Allen, C. Brown, W.Gay, Josh Victorian, Hawthorne

    S-(5)- Troy, Clark, S. Thomas, Cromartie-Smith, R. Golden

    ST-(3) LS Warren, K Suisham, P Butler

PS-(8) J.D.Woods(wr), N. Williams (DE) Brian Arnfelt (DE) Alan Baxter(OLB) Terrence Gavin (LB) Isaiah Green (CB) Derrick Moye (WR), #8 ???

    IR- Plax

IR to Return - Matt Spaeth

Tarheel- I guess the 64 thousand $ question is who returns to FULL Health 1st, Heath or Spaeth.

I get your logic in keeping DJ.... I just don't like him and would hate loosing either moye or woods because we kept him.

I had high hopes for Hawthorne BUT you can't make the Club sitting in the Tub.

I'm still considering cutting Cromartie -smith and keeping Dunn as returner, just got to see how he does these last two games, if he breaks one I think he makes the final cut.
