The Steelers haven't had a true NT since Javon Hargrave, and I feel like Dexter Lawrence would be a great addition to the defense. If I were Omar Kahn I'd be on the phone with the Giants right now trying to work out a deal for "Sexy Dexy". Any thoughts?

I don't think he's "declining", he's only 28 and still has another 3-4 good (maybe even great) years left in him. Dexter had a off year for him in 2025 because the Giants are a garbage team. Put him on a good team like the Steelers, he could help them get to the next level. Sure, he won't come cheap, but the Steelers have enough cap space to afford him.

They have 27 million and haven't signed Rodgers yet, they also need money to sign their rookie class and they always carry an extra 6-8 million more during the season. If they want a NT just draft one in the mid-rounds they would come a lot cheaper.

Kayden McDonald profiles far better than what Dexter Lawrence does at this point in his career. If this were two years ago, I would have been all over this trade. Now, not so much anymore.

I wouldn't say I am against it, but he is in his 8th season. I would rather draft McDonald or Orange. The upcoming draft has about 5 quality NTs for the 0 tech.

Lawrence was a Page 2 DT last season but wants paid as a Page 1 player. Why would any team want to trade for that? Steelers have picks, draft has talent.

I think the Steelers should consult Dubas from the Penguins before going forward with any trade or FA pick ups. This guy gets an A++ in my book.

I thought the vast majority of this board wanted younger and cheaper.

    Trading Highsmith.

I have heard some rumblings about the possibility of trading Highsmith.
I don't it would be for this player, though it could make sense. It sounds like that relationship has gone really sour.
    but one never really knows.

I could see trading Highsmith for picks.

It feels like a lot of horse trading could go on in this draft possibly, if I put any weight on the article I read.
The Steelers don't normally trade but there's a new coach in town and he doesn't really have a QB nor a complete WR group.
So the more picks the better.

    I like Lawrence.

But this kind of trade is for teams in "win now" mode.

Giving up future draft capital for a guy who's going to be good now, but likely age out in our next competitive window doesn't make sense for us.

IMO, this is the kind of move you make if you already have a QB and are looking to get over the hump.

If we did make this trade (and I doubt we will), I'd have fun watching him play for us. But the difference between us fighting for a WC spot and maybe winning a playoff game is more than just a very good NT.

    We need a QB.

And even if he still is a "page one" player, it doesn't make sense for the Steelers to give up draft capital for a guy who will be expensive and declining by the next time we are competitive for more than just a WC game.

I think the Steelers are kind of in a "win now" situation being that this will be Rodgers final year. With the Steelers having three 3rd round picks, I don't think they'd be giving up that much in the way of draft capital if they traded one of those picks for Lawrence. I agree that they have other holes to fill before being a real contender, but a good NT would certainly help their chances of getting there.

We might pretend to be (like last season).

But IMO, if you're going to make "win now" decisions you should have a team that's capable of winning now.

I thought we did a good job last season of "pretending" without selling out the future. But I would have still preferred it if we did things to prioritize the medium term (e.g., play Wilson over Queen and don't force J Smith).
