troy fautanu playing right tackle but played left in college.
mason mccormick playing right guard but played left in college.
dylan cook has shown he can play either side at tackle.
jack driscoll can play either guard but can play right tackle well too.
spencer anderson plays everywhere but played right, left tackle and some guard in college and here. also a backup center.
hoffman can play either guard and center.
mccullom is a center.
lots of futures guards in camp.

could they or would they draft a right tackle? they have looked at freeling from georgia a right tackle. dunker who was a right tackle at iowa. iheanachor who played right tackle. blake miller was a right tackle.
bell is a left tackle.

schrauth from notre dame has played both guard spots. ionae has played both sides at guard. kayden rutledge played right guard. bisontis has played several positions. both guards and right tackle. pregnon is a left guard.

does this have anything to do with cole payton being drafted and keeping options open to shore up his blind side as a lefty and also being just as easily capable of protecting a righty too.

Regardless if it is Offensive Tackle or Offensive Guard, acquire the player that will aid immediately and provide the best ROI (Return on Investment). Offensive Guard, or more specifically Vega Ioane, would fit the bill. If not him, either Proctor or Monroe Freeling can be trusted to man the Guard spot as well as act as a Broderick Jones Contingency Plan. Blake Miller would immediately kick to Right Tackle but would the Steelers be willing to play musical chairs again given how the Broderick Jones experience has played out?!


For me, all depends on the board in terms of the big heavies. Vega is still my pick though I doubt he gets past either Baltimore or Tampa Bay. Kadyn is next though I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland takes him 6th overall.

 

Unless you think Vega can play center, do you think the Ravens can ignore the center position after losing Pro Bowler Tyler Linderbaum? The Steelers tried this after losing Pouncey and really killed their team by drafting guard Kendrick Green and expecting him to immediately start at Center in the NFL.

Right now for the center position the Ravens have Linderbaum's UDFA rookie backup and a Free agent that has 10 starts in his 6 years serving as Indys backup Center/Guard. Is Kendrick Green still with Cleveland?

 

You don't always take your biggest team need in the first round. You take the best player available. If the best player is at a position you just do not need to upgrade, or is not an upgrade, you accept trade offers.


I believe Kayden Proctor will be our pick.

 

What if the best player available is an RB, TE, or C?

 

Would totally take a RB. We haven't had a total badass at RB since Bell. Warren and Dowdle would provide good depth.

 

And how are you going to split the carries between three RBs? There is only one legit first round RB in this draft, and it would require trading up for him.

 

Steelers need to go offense heavy, IMO. Unless there is a CB or DT that is too good to pass up in first round. I would not object to either.

Steelers did fine splitting carries between Warren and Gainwell last year. That's one thing they got right.

Parker Brailsford from Alabama profiles a bit like Tyler. Tyler though was stronger and could displace Defensive Lineman more consistently. That isn't accounting for his overall skulls in pass protection either. If anything, Baltimore may be eyeing Parker over Vega.


If that is the case, perhaps Baltimore is looking to obtaining Reuben Bain; trading up even.

i think this right tackle thing has some teeth. why waste fautanu at right tackle? put he and mccormick back at their best positions and draft for the right side. cook and driscoll as the backups.

To think that Ben had to play behind Green as the starting center. Green was just awful and got run over routinely.

Not easy duty for an old Ben.

 

i think with the new coaches and whatever system they use with the offense now, this would be the time to make moves if they choose to with guys like fautanu and mccormick. is fautanu as good or better than the guys they may be drafting? are there better right tackles over what he is on the right? that's for the new staff to determine. same with guard. i expect pass protection will be more of a premium in this offense.

cook didn't do too bad in pass protection. fautanu struggled in a couple of games on the right. this is going to be one of the best watches as the team and offense forms in my mind. we will go as they go i believe.

 

Pay attention to what happened to the best QB in the league last season. Why did Mahomes have such a miserable year? Answer: their OL was dookie. He was running for his life in half the games. If that happened to the best QB what will happen with a 42 yr old one?

The other thing MM spoke about was beefing up the run game to make it easier on the QB. Best way to do that is to beef up the OL. OT/OG in Rd1.

 

Maybe that was their way to get Ben to retire
