He's the better player now, no doubt with his experience, but let's not sell Herbig short just yet.

Agreed, but that's I believe is because of experience he doesn't have yet.

I'm certainly not advocating for giving up on the guy, but I haven't seen him play well enough as a starter so far in his NFL career. Highsmith has proven that he can start and play at a very high level. He just isn't consistent or durable enough to live up to his contract.

    Maybe?

It might also be that he is a bit short and light for a 3-4 outside linebacker. That's always the question about him. Can he hold up as and EDGE player at the NFL level. I often wonder if Herbig is BEST suited for a super-sub role.

Well he'll play tonight and the Ravens will run 30 times to his side like the Bills did and set a new record

Same was Said for James Harrison in his 1st years. It took him awhile, and yet we get Herbig as a great sub until then .

Would not rule out Herbig as trade bait. This is Herbig's last season on contract and Sawyer showed a little something last season. A 4th this year or a future 3rd?

I might even consider Highsmith as bait when thinking about his annual injuries.

There was some talk after the season Herbig wanted out of Pittsburgh because he wants to start, I'm not sure he wants to sign a contract extension with the Steelers.

Two things we need to keep in mind when talking trades

    1. They need a dance partner

    And

    2. That partner needs to value the player being traded for as much as Steeler fans do.

All the more reason to trade him away. I'd try for a 3rd in '27 but settle for a 4th or 5th.

Does anyone have any hard evidence that Herbig is unhappy and wanting to be traded to another team so he has a chance to start? I just saw an article from one of the usual suspects looking for views where he was speculating that it could be Herbig's final season because Watt and Highsmith are locked in and Sawyer proved himself capable at the end of last season and has 3 years left on his rookie deal so that leaves Herbig as the lone guy who is outside looking. Just printing pure speculation at this point and not trying real hard at that.

It's just rumors but I wouldn't be surprised if Herbig wanted to get traded to a team where he can start.

I agree. If they want young quarterbacks to learn from a veteran quarterback, then signing Rodgers has no bearing on whether or not they draft any quarterback.

Rudolph may lose a roster spot so that two young quarterbacks can absorb as much as they can from Rodgers and learn the new offense from a quarterback with mastery of McCarthy's offensive system.

Rudolph would make it through camp as a 4th arm and then anything can happen if someone gets hurt

If they don’t draft anyone I expect Skylar Thompson to be a 4th arm
