The part that people skip over is that the Jags rag-dolled the Steelers in the regular season that year...with Shazier playing 100% of snaps.
Roethlisberger even started the game out with like a 50 yd bomb to AB (had to settle for a FG. In fact, that's all the Steelers did that day, kick FGs.. :glare:)

The part people skip over is that same JAGS team should have been in the SB if not for the same intervention that most teams got against the Patriots. Go back, and watch that AFC Championships game.

I can not think of any reasons why that happened. Nope. Not 5 reasons. Not 5 things that might have impacted a really poor offensive performance....none at all....

One of these days I would LOVE to know what the Jags knew that turned them into Ben's kryptonite.

I agree. Jags were a worthy team that year. Their defense was legit.

It was. But there was always something against that version of the Jags where they seemed to have more of a book on Ben than anyone else.

Too long ago for me to recall anything in detail....but it just seemed that the Jags had more answers for that version of the Steelers offense than anyone else. Must have been another Tomlin coaching screw-up.

Matchups my friend. We used to have that same thing against Andy Reid until he got Mahomes.
We could look at why can't McVay beat a Tomlin team? Matchups.
Why has Vrabel lost against Tomlin every time??
Matchups. Why did Tomlin have so much trouble with Belichick?? Matchups
Why did a Tomlin D usually have it's way with Lamar Jackson, and always with Cam Newton, but Belichick couldn't beat them hardly??
Matchups. Our D was perfect for that type of Qb, and Belichicks mainly man sucks against it. Matchups.
Why did a guy I knocked out in the 1st round back in the day beat some of the guys that had beaten me??
Matchups. I believe Matchups, and Styles have a lot to do with outcomes of any sport. JMHO

They were a good team, and I still believe without help from the refs in the AFC Championship game that year, they should have beaten the Pats, and made the SB. Now would they have won the SB???
I don't know , but they should have been there.

And throw picks (one for a DTD).

And we ran out of FGs in the 2nd quarter.

I think I have the results of all the drives in the regular season game up thread.

    It was very bad.

And I agree that even with 50, the D was bad.

I think I said this up-thread too, but I think the Jags were the worst draw we could have gotten in the playoffs there. IIRC, we played the Pats well in the regular season that year after Shazier got hurt (was that the Jesse James game?)

Can't blame Ben when you have 470 passing yards,5 TD,2 Turnovers but this is not enough.....You are supposed to win a playoffs game against Blake Bortles with a stat line like that but the steelers were not ready to play...They were focused on the pats

I do wonder if there's something that DCs found if those two Jags games.

The next playoff game was the Browns (4 picks).

Then the KC game. And while I don't think he was necessarily serious with the "let's just go out there and have fun" messaging...I do think that the reason he didn't retire with Pouncey is that he didn't want that Browns game (worst game of his career) to be the last time he played pro-football. So I do think there was some risk aversion that was very anti-Ben like in that game.

But the thing I'll remember about that season will be the Browns and Rats games at the end of the year....especially the dramatic win against the Rats.

Hard to have a worst playoffs defense than that....It don't include the ravens game when they gave up 299 rushing yards.Brady would also struggle to win with a playoffs defense like that and he would more turnovers when you are behind early....
