Could be less expensive and have more integrity to hire a crew upstairs for each game that reviews the plays live. You then need less officials on the field.

It would be an interesting experiment to have AI officiate a game behind-the-scenes, monitoring several cameras. You'd probably see penalties on every single play.

I'd like to see the game somehow made easier to officiate. The holding / non-holding calls make me nuts. It's like one of those calls that every official can keep in their back pocket to use anytime they want. I've always wondered how the game would be different if linemen were permitted to hold. And put some kind of boxing-type glove on their hands to make it difficult to just grab with.

These guys make roughly $10k a game on the low side. It is only a part-time gig, as in one day a week for 6 months. I'm not against them getting a raise and making whatever they get. But don't really care either way.

Pretty sure there is a lot more hours involved with the job than game day. A billion dollar league can afford full time refs.

This. It is insane they dont make this a full time job for them. Have a schedule for them to work on during the week honing their craft, reviewing each weeks games with questionable calls, knowing the rule book backwards and forward, etc and pay them accordingly.

They don't need 55-year-old men showing up on weekends struggling to keep up with pro athletes when they already make hundreds of thousands of dollars with their regular work.

The NFL needs young men that are in shape and willing to take on full-time duty as officials. This should be a full-time job and not a part-time gig.

Make a hard age limit. They should probably get a pension to help offset any issues getting a good job when they leave NFL service.

They have so much money in the NFL that this should have happened 30 years ago.
