Me too. In a heart beat. For those arguing that Kordell would have been better in today's NFL, I still wouldn't imagine they'd put him over Wilson at his best.

But sadly, prime Wilson isn't what we got.

Just like we don't have prime Rodgers (still I think our best QB since Ben's injury).

Just like we didn't see prime Ben for years before his retirement.

What exactly was unrealistic? Did you watch Kordell back in the day?

Yes. He wasn't great, but he wasn't nearly as bad as you made him out to be.

This is realistic and a fact you can’t ignore

76 TDs and 82 INTs. QB rating of 71.

I am not sure if you watched Kordell or remember how he played. He was one of the worst QBs. He could run, but that was it. 7 years as a starting QB and I could could muster was a 71 QB rating in the regular season and a 45 QB rating in the post-season. That's not even close to being average. The average QB rating during his time was the low to mid-80s. Keep in mind that Kordell had a good defense and running game to help out.

Now do Bradshaw. Better yet, do Jim Plunkett. The overall numbers don't tell the full story in those cases either.

Stewart had a weird career in Pittsburgh. At times, such as the 1998 and '99 seasons, he was terrible. Other times, such as 1997, 2000, and 2001, he was a solid starter, if an unconventional one.

He was that player at time, but he was a lot better than that other times. You seem to be ignoring the latter.

Any opinion by someone with an Archie Bunker avatar should be taken with a grain of salt. There's some obvious negative racial bias that prevents objectivity. Couldn't resist... had to say it. :smiley1:

I have been assuming it is the same real world person and dude loves nothing more than to rant about Kordell Stewart. Been doing it on various Steelers message boards for as long as I can remember and I started out on the Steelers.com one in the late 1990's.

Steeldude has a couple of other really great talking points about james harrison and Bud Dupree. Now that Tomlin is gone....don't get to hear them as much.

I never posted on Steelers.com. I have been on 3 boards since 1998. RealPittsburgh, Steelers Fever and the Steelers Universe.

I see you are the same person here as on the other forum.

He was horrible most of the time as a passer. Yes, he made some great plays, but I would say a vast majority of those were when he was running, not passing.

From 1998 to 2001 Kordell's regular season stats as a QB were as follows...

    Gamest played/started - 64/55
    QB record - 32W 22L
    Completion% - 56.6
    Passing YDS - 8993
    Passing TDs/INTs - 42/47
    Passing YPA - 6.1
    Passing YPG as a starter - 163
    QB Rating - 71.1

That you chose to leave out his best season, 1997, tells us all we need to know about your approach to this discussion.

So I did. I went back and added 1997. The stats barely change. His W/L improved the most. Comp% went down slightly. His QB rating went up 0.9 points. There wasn't much that moved by adding 1997. He still couldn't pass. Defenses figured him out. All you need to do is stack the line. Do you want his 1997 post-season stats? They are beyond horrible.

Throughout this entire conversation you have not given anything to support your opinion. I not saying you are required to, but you make snide comments about my opinion, but offer nothing to validate your own. What has Kordell done for you to believe he wasn't that bad?

I bet you hate Jalen Hurts and Doug Williams too... and those dudes won Super Bowls.

I guess Mahomes' white half made him a great QB.

He started for five years. He was very good in two of them, lousy in the other three. What did he do to you that you can't acknowledge that he didn't just have good moments, he had good seasons?

If Kordell had won a couple of SBs you could disregard his stats, but he did not and you cannot.

What does race have to do with it? You people always obsess over race. A person's race has nothing to do with whether or not a player can succeed in the NFL. Let that sink in. This is the reason for my avatar. It's to poke fun at people that pull the race card when they have no argument.

When did I even remotely imply he has not had good moments? I am sure nearly every NFL starter has had good moments. Kenny Pickett had good moments. Kordell's passing game is why I say he was horrible. If he was very good(in 1997 and 2001) then why did teams stack the box and force Kordell to beat them with his arm? In 1998, I remember he was pulled from the game vs the Bucs after his 3rd INT, as a result, he literally started crying on the sidelines. Kordell was emotionally fragile too.

Here are Kordell's stats for his best two seasons(1997/2001)...

    Comp% - 56.9
    TDs - 17.5
    INTs - 14
    Passing YDS - 6129
    YPA - 6.95
    QB Rating 78.45

You and I have two very different views on what is very good. That's fine of course. We all have our own views.

Here are Pickett's stats for his two seasons...

    Comp% - 62.6
    TDs - 13
    INTs - 13
    Passing YDS - 4474
    YPA - 6.3
    QB Rating 78.8

Was Pickett very good, average or poor? I would say he was poor.

All of that being said, stats don't always tell the entire story. Kordell was worse than his stats, IMO.

    Kordell was pretty inconsistent.

And when he was bad he was bad. Skipping the ball in front of WRs bad.

When he was good, he wasn't great, but pretty good.

And his athletic ability was very high for the time.

The swings were wild. And ultimately there was too much "bad" for the "pretty good".

I do wonder if we would have seen less bad if he played in an age where QBs were protected like they are today.
