and now hoffman was finally signed. there may not be a guard drafted until later. with anderson, mccollum and hoffman now the interior spots are in much better shape.

Better but none of them are high caliber long term solutions

They are backups who may start

    Mason Rudolph on the OL

Still need to draft long term starters

no but the depth is far better than what it was. driscoll, hoffman, mccollum, anderson. not bad for guard and center depth. driscoll helps the tackle spot depth. they are looking at both tackle and guard in this draft. pregnon, miller wouldn't be a bad way to go.

    I missed something

I was thinking you were suggesting they did not need to look at those positions in the draft

My recollection is that Driscoll has been capable as a G, and terrible as a T. I could be wrong on that, but I don’t think I am. In my view we are addressing interior line depth, but so far we only have tackle depth if Jones is back and Cook goes back to being the swing guy. And there’s the question of whether Jones will improve enough to be a quality LT if he does return healthy. That’s no sure thing either.

Oh, and we absolutely need a starting LG. None of those guys or Spencer Anderson are it.

i'm thinking they wait until after the first for one. pregnon, bisontis, schrauth, rutledge all seem to be in that range of 2nd and later.

Jack Driscoll’s ability to perform at multiple positions along the offensive line stems from a combination of physical attributes, technical skill, and professional mindset. Analyzing his career, several factors contributed:
    1. Versatility Across Positions
    2. Athletic and Technical Skills
    3. Professional Mindset and Preparation
    4. Experience in High-Pressure Situations
    5. Career Outcome
    Conclusion
Jack Driscoll excelled at multiple positions in the NFL through positional versatility, elite athleticism for an offensive lineman, disciplined preparation, and strong technical skills. He maximized his value to his teams by being a reliable, adaptable player capable of stepping in at tackle or guard roles whenever needed.

Never have too many. For BUs each one isn’t bad and the position flexibility they bring is a huge Benefit for OL BUs that have to be ready on short notice. In addition, in totality, I like the Sum of all parts. Nice job by Omar plugging leaks.

I think we've built the roster perfectly to not HAVE to draft any position in the first. We could easily go OL, DL, CB, S, WR.... but we don't need to go with any of them. My bet is still on WR (of the slot variety), but nothing would surprise me. I think we did a really nice job in FA this year.

I think TE is creeping up the list. Maybe one of the third round picks.

I wouldn't use a 3rd rounder this season for one. They may need to use one for a move up.

With Muth seeing limited action due to Smiths obsession with Jonnu he is fresh as a daisy and i'm suer will get lots of action I hope. Plus we have the Beast as well.

I would say the 4th round and a FA to round it out.

i think if sadiq drops he's it. if not i believe it's omar cooper or one of cj allen, or anthony hill. the other option would be hood or johnson the corners. depends who drops though. lot's of talk of the cowboys picking hill.

Great depth signing for Ryan McCollum. Allows the team to hold off on drafting a flex depth IOL option. That said, regarding guard, there still isn't a great starting capable option on the team.

Vega Ionae is the drafts best pure Guard. He is also the only major Round One option that is a plug n play player that won't require a position change. Guards like him don't come around often.

I would trade up for him provided the price is right. He is that special an Offensive Lineman imo.

    So I agree.

Even though Sadiq is listed as a TE he is basically a 245 lb WR that runs a 4.39.

He certainly looks and projects an awful lot like Vernon Davis. The size and athleticism (and build) all are very similar. Davis was .01 faster, did 7 more reps on the bench, and had 13 lbs on Sadiq. Though Sadiq had 1.5" higher vert and 5'' better broad jump.

I don't know where he will go. Davis went 6th. I could see someone falling in love with him and taking him that early. Though, maybe he could slip into the late teens. I would be a bit surprised if we went that route, but I guess we would use him like a slot WR most of the time. Its possible.

Can Hoffman out play a rookie guard? I think yes. I know ioane is the top guard this year but this is a weak guard class, so being the best isn't that high of a bar. His foot speed wasn't that big of deal at psu but it will be taken advantage of in the pros.

You mentioned PFF’s rating of his pass block efficiency so I looked. If you look at his PFF ratings and snap counts per position, the years where PFF rated him highly he played most of his snaps at G.

Foot speed at the Guard position is only necessary if the team is very heavy zone based as far as their rushing attack is concerned. Even then, Ionae's run blocking foot speed is fine. It is his technique that is the problem; good but no where in the same vein that his pass protection foot speed is.

Overall, Foot Speed for Vega isn't the issue. His Foot Technique is the problem. Foot technique can be coached. Foot speed cannot be. No Steelers Guard currently on the roster has the requisite foot speed nor technique to man the Left Guard spot overall anyhow. For that matter, losing Isaac Seumalo only magnified that issue.

There is only one Guard who possesses that ability to start day one. Every other option in Round One has to be a Tackle Convert; a Steep learning curve all on its own. If not Vega, Keylan Rutledge would be the only other one.

Now, as for why someone like Kadyn Proctor is among my top three?! Like Ioane but supercharged, men like him shouldn't exist. Kadyn has way too many traits overall that would benefit him as a Guard. In that same vein, as I say in my statement, Kadyn should be looked at as a contingency option for Broderick Jones first and foremost. Even if the team is good with Dylan Cook, Cook is a UFA in 2027 anyways; his future uncertain anyhow.

Kadyn provides coverage for two spots while the team can still add a Guard later.

i was going by what i read. either way he's good depth. the steelers thought enough to bring him back as did the eagles. that is a good guy to have available on game days. 4 positions on the line that he won't feel lost at. i think he's a big upgrae from calvin anderson.
