Tell you what I see. Even in the Killer Bee years the Steelers offenses weren't rated as highly as many years of MM's. Tomlin isn't necessarily the culprit. It's an organizational thing that started with Chaz Noll. His quote: "You have to not lose before you can win". This is the foundation the team needed in order to go from a perennial loser to a dynasty. Build a defense with an impenetrable wall. Having said this, so much has changed in the game favoring offenses and scoring. The Mel Blount rule was the beginning of the end. And really if a team cannot find a franchise QB, or is unable to develop one, it's just a huge uphill battle to win games. You have to be far better on the defensive side to do it.
I'm encouraged that MM has been able to build very good offensive lines. It all starts there and getting that right will make the rest easier.

I don't care how much of a freak athlete Sadiq is, I still wouldn't draft him in the first round they have bigger needs.

The most encouraging part of the MM hire for me is that his GB teams had some pretty good OL and there was player turnover there as well. Somebody on that staff was doing something positive with the OL.

Would be a fun rewrite of the movie "The Thing". All standing in a room, staring each other down. Which one of yinz is an AI bot that's gonna meld with my mind?

(btw, one of the few movies I thought the remake was better than the original)

I believe McCarthy was hired so we don't start with an unknown right away. Clean up the yard a bit and the next coach will be a young one from his rebuilt staff, then he will bow out once his contract expires and possibly move into the front office. Too much damage has been done since Ben retired especially the 2022 draft class, nobody left from it. That should be the tell tale indicator right there.

Not a lot of young looking faces in that staff: https://www.steelers.com/team/coaches-roster/

Hopefully Arth and Peko are coaching stars.

McCarthy got fired with Rodgers in his prime. Let's not forget that.

Yet with all that said they both went to two SB, and they both only won one SB. Common player that made both look good , Ben Roethlisberger.
Also You fail to mention what a D could do , and get away with when Cowher coached, that the last 10 years of Tomlin coaching they couldn't.

Pittsburgh nabbing Mike McCarthy for the short term tells me that the team will have to nab a QB in either 2026 (provided the one that the team wants is on the board) or in 2027. From there, up to Mike. If he cannot do it... well....

Side Note; Kenyon Sadiq wasn't getting to Pittsburgh before the NFL Combine anyways given how comically rare his versatility is for a Tight End; arguably better than Tyler Warren from Penn State. Post Combine?! I will be shocked if he escapes the Top 10. Very Seldom do tight ends that have such versatility with a quasi WR 1 skillset become available.

Cowher led a team to the super bowl with Neil O’Donnell (poster boy of game managers) against the 93 Champs. They shouldve won too if Neil didn't decide to play catch with Larry Johnson. Cowher turned a mediocre incomplete team he inherited into a contender. Hes no 2 in terms of best steeler coaches imho.

getting back to McCarthy, i agree he's likely a short term one contract coach. Here to find and develop that next franchise Qb

Like I said, Cowher defenses were far superior to Tomlin defenses....and it's not even close. Look no further than Tomlin defenses post-2011.

Was Larry Brown. Two gifts to the MVP of XXX and then faded after signing with the Faders.

O'Dunghead had a few bets to pay off...

And yes we were coming back after taking a solid punch and should have won, but...

I’m no NOD fan but at least I am aware that one of those interceptions clearly was not his fault.

And I’m aware it was Larry Brown.

Other than that you nailed it.

If you're talking about modern rules in place to benefit QBs, WRs and NFL offenses.... why did teams (Steelers included) have so much trouble scoring on Texans, Seahawks and Broncos defenses? Patriots defense was also good until the Super Bowl... when they got torched by Kubiak, the coach Steelers should have waited on to hire.

yeah the second pass Brown (sorry) gambled and went to where the ball was “supposed to be” as Hastings cut up field. Its “apparently” Hastings fault but it also looked like brown knew the play better than the receiver did lol

Funny you say that , yet a Tomlin coached D has given up less points in a year than any Cowher coached team.
Also Tomlin coached teams offense scored more points in a year than any Cowher coached teams. Explain that please.
Myself I Loved all 3 HCs I have watched, but it's you that keeps pitting them against each other.

We had good offenses in that stretch.

But we still played the game with the mind of a defensive coach.

I have no desire to do the research, but I wonder what would happen if someone studied offensive and defensive head coach behavior when up by 2+ scores. My guess is that defensive minded coaches use the run more and have more TOP when up 14+ than offensive minded coaches do. But that's just a guess.

Plus how many times have we watched a Offense mind HC lose a game , and all they had to do was run the ball, punt, and take the 3s if they presented themselves. Go watch the Falcons vs the Pats in the SB. Go watch the Bears game this year in the playoffs. Go watch many of Detroits losses this year.

Tomlin spoiled my late 40's and early 50's of Steelers fandom with mediocrity. Can't get those years back. I'm bitter... I admit it. :glare:
