His is one of the Jerseys I have and cherished along with Lambert's. My wife has Alzheimers and she is yonger than Greg but she hasn't lost the ability to speak. Probably a CTE by product I would surmise but they won't know until he passes if they even want to know for sure. As my nephew said to me the other day, "I would rather have cancer!". To lose one's identity and to forget everyone you know is a very cruel way to go. I wish him well and hope the journey isn't a long drawn out miserable end.

    Horrible disease for all involved.

Next to Woodson, he was my favorite Steeler back then.

Prayers to him and his family as well as the OP’s.

Lloyd was one of the first Steelers jerseys I owned. Sorry to hear this news about him.

That's awful. I loved watching that guy play. My mother died of dementia. It's not a fun time. Best wishes for him and his family.

Are we sure that's for real? I'm asking because apparently the same thing word for word was said about Faneca,

Lloyd's name doesn't appear in the headline, which seems odd, and I can't find any other source for it.

You mean nobody is going to attack Him, and take him to task like they did Ben??
I mean He beat his wife, and stuck a gun in his son's mouth, I guess that's OK compared to having relations in a bathroom, and being accused.
    That was for certain people.
I was a fan of G. Lloyd back in the day, and still have his Jersey.

This is in poor taste if it is. Why would anyone make up such a story? My mother had
dementia before she died, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

They are the same idiots who are always making fake posts that famous people have died when they have not. The bottom 5% or so are just scum of the earth people that make life worse for everyone else on the planet.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife.

You probably know way more about this than I do, but it sounds like maybe trying to get / stay in ketosis can help.

Thank you. Agree the NFL has made so much money and they know very early on the danger the players were facing from the concussions and what not. In their best interest to take care of their ex players.

More fake news from the same sick bastards that reported Lynn Swann died last week. He didn’t.

They must have a miserable life.

Sorry to bump this thread when we know the original story seems to be BS.

But I was reading a bit today and came across a couple papers that talk about the potential for treating dementia. It's not my area of research (Dammit Jim, I'm an engineer, not a doctor), but my understanding is that at least some forms of dementia are due to the brain not being able to get enough energy due to insulin resistance (I'm sure that there are people on here that understand the biochemistry better than I do). My understanding is that we "know" that creatine (1) improves glucose uptake in muscles even when people have insulin sensitivity issues, (2) the brain produces / requires creatine by itself, and (3) recent research suggests that higher doses of creatine (e.g., > 5 g) have creatine being consumed to the brain which seems to improve brain function in stressed situations (e.g. sleep deprivation).

If all of that is "true" it might give us some idea for a mechanism for why creatine supplementation could help with symptoms of dementia.

    https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41737290/
    https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40395689/
https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05383833 (lists papers published from this study)
    https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/nutrition/articles/10.3389/fnut.2025.1670641/full
    https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10594571/

    There's no answer here.

But (1) creatine is super well studied and doesn't pose a safety risk and (2) it's super cheap (I get mine at Bulk Supplements...no need to get anything fancy, monohydrate works fine).

My adherence to creatine supplementation isn't great...I'll do a few weeks on, then drop off.

But I've just been doing the typical gym-bro 5 g dosing. Maybe I'll try the higher dosages (2x - 3x 5 g doses spread throughout the day) to see if I get some of the brain benefits that are touted in some of these studies (particularly interested in improving mid-day brain fog and sleep).

Maybe all of this is totally useless, but thought I'd drop it here in case Wolfepack or others wanted to see it. Seems like a low-risk, low-cost thing to try.
