I keep seeing that we are screwed if Aaron doesn't come back and that we are loosers if we don't take a FA QB like Murry or Geno Smith or Cousin's but I don't under stand why they are saying that to me I think Mason is better then someone elses garbage I say if Aaron doesn't roll the dice with Mason and Will and let them compete how are you all feeling about this...

Have we not seen enough of Mason? He is a spot backup QB at best. Would rather go 2-15 with Howard and see what he has then 8-9 with Mason knowing what he is.

As long as Rudolph is #2 or #3 on the depth chart... it's all good. He's not a starting caliber QB, but a good backup. We've seen enough to know this.

I would rather roll with Mason/howard/x than bring back Rodgers or any other free agent qb. If they fall flat on their face so be it. If nothing else we will be better positioned to draft a qb next year without giving up ridiculous draft capitol

Mason is easily better than washed up Kirk Cousins and Geno Smith. He outplayed Geno Smith in Seattle and beat them when historically no Steeler qb had won there in decades. He was better than Aaron Rodgers against Cinci last year. He had never been given a full year with a good coach and decent talent around him. Currently, I believe he is as good as middle of the road starter in nfl. There are no franchise qb out there and Mason comes in a lot cheaper than any washed up or somebody else’s failure out there. I would him out there with Will Howard as back up. If Mason struggles or gets hurt, it will be Will Howards’s time to shine. There are a lot of people who were vested in Kenny Pickett on this board and on talk shows. They all predicted that Mason would do terrible in 2033. They were proven wrong. So when Mason has an average game, they label it as garbage.

And if we still had Dennis Dixon, the odds-makers would have a field day with that line (so to speak). :hmm:

If we don't sign someone (which I doubt), we'll likely start Mason and then put Howard in when / if things go south.

But I think we'll sign someone. Then have Mason as the safe QB2. With the hope that Howard shows he can be at least a QB2.

AR is coming back Will is going to be the #2,, our #3 is not decided yet .. A draft pick ? Skylar ? Not Mason he has no future with this Team..MM likes smart quick thinking QB'S and is looking to build a Franchise QB , Mason can't help Will he can't be a future QB and his pre snap game is poor to say the least ..

Mason is a backup QB. He’s ok at that job. If he’s a starter anywhere, that team will have a very limited offense. Hopefully we’re not that team.

IMO the best QB on the team in last year’s preseason was Skyler Thompson. There would be a bit of risk picking him over Mason as the last QB on the roster, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if we do that. More potential upside if he has to play.

Sooner or later you have to bite the bullet and move towards the future at the position instead of a band aid.

Art II wants to "Run it Back" so his answer is Rodgers for another year. I'm not totally against that if it leads to Howard or a draft pick slotted to start in 2027.

I'm hoping the Howard hype is real. A lot of chatter praising him.

If Rodgers decides he is retiring then I would start Howard and have Mason as the #2 or Thompson if he is still available. Let the chips fall where they may.

Their is no guarantee that any of the QB's coming out in 2027 are a sure thing. This has been happening for a few years now. This is the year to find your Franchise QB! Then it fizzles.

And if it bombs you can select a QB higher in the draft in 2027 with the understanding they will start from day one with a vet back up.

    Ditch Mason for cooper Rush?

Gives you another guy to help the others learn McCarthy’s stuff.

That way when Rodgers FINALLY retires, and the Steelers FINALLY draft someone, Rush is still around to “mentor”.

You still think the Steelers owe him a three-year window as a starter, so that context helps put your post in perspective. Rudolph is capable of the occasional good game against **** competition, but he belongs where spent most of this past season, on the bench.

Still bitter about being wrong about Pickett. When did he get a full year let alone three year window? He played 9 games his first year and he played badly against Cleveland and Cincinnati. There were very justified reasons for those including bad OL, top receiver Juju and top rb Connor out. He started against Detroit on one day preparation and played in terrible conditions. After that his play with the Steelers has qb rating of over 100. That is over 5.5 games. That is very serviceable.

    New message board rule proposal:

For every post someone has musing on the positive qualities and chances that either Mason or KP develop into starting QBs....they have to sit out all QB discussions until they watch like 3 hours of JT O'Sullivans QB YouTube channel and remember what a good QB looks like.

dallas just released howell. if mccarthy and these coaches are better than our last bunch they should be able to work with this group much better than the last bunch of stale coaches on offense.

nobody got better under the former group. we will have to wait and see under new coaching.

How about this new rule? The next time someone complains about Terry Bradshaw or Big Ben they should be suspended from the board for a week.
