Kyler Murray is currently the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. He officially signed a one-year contract with the team on March 12, 2026.

Now does JJ McCarthy have a Kenny Pickett melt down?

I never thought McCarthy was an NFL QB, and I'm certainly not ready to change my mind

Funny how all the "stars" of that Michigan team struggle in the NFL - McCarthy, Wilson, Corum.

Almost like something hinky was going on there....what a bunch of frauds.

I mean...he is a serviceable back-up RB. Cool. That is a good thing for a team to have. He was billed as the engine of an offense. How he functioned at Michigan. He is just a guy in the NFL from what I have seen.

College football is a sham. Liars and cheats all the way down.

JJ McCarthy has never impressed me and i have stated that on this board when he came out after winning national championship. He has never been accurate on a consistent basis. Many people are enamored with Will Howard on this board. In my opinion he is similar to JJ McCarthy, but I am not opposed to giving him a chance. I rather give Will Howard an extended look than sign McCarthy.

Although here it would be blamed on the coach, but I totally agree, You have to blame that on the Qb.

I do find it funny that a so called awesome OC/HC moved up to draft a Qb, had another Qb, but let him go because he was so sure of the guy he picked, and now is having to use someone else's Qb that they picked, and yet is getting no heat, and is still said to be this awesome OC/HC. If that D didn't help them last year , they would be lucky to win 5 games.

Still seems a coinflip on first round QBs being a success..... (success = a second contract from the drafting team, or 5+ seasons in starting role)
Out of the TBDs I'm guessing three of them will be 'successful'.

In the last 10 years here's the list:

    No.

J.J. doesn't fit with what Mike McCarthy would want from his QBs. J.J. is. Best used creating plays out of structure. While A Rod did this in his prime, people tend to forget how well versed he was as a Pocket Passer. J.J. hasn't been that ever and it is fair to say if he ever will.

Yeah, but Darnold started on the Jets where QBs go to die.... like Cleveland. O'Connell has shown in the past to be a competent offensive mind... not quite Shanahan or McVey, but good. McCarthy has much better coaching than Darnold had..... no excuses.

Baker and Darnold had NFL caliber traits. It took them some time to land in a situation where they could maximize those with success. For instance, Darnold has an incredible arm. He has issues with accuracy....but no doubting his arm.

Mac Jones has like about zero NFL level physical tools. He better think twice as fast as anyone else on the field because that is his only potential tool. Pining for Mac Jones is like hoping to sign Nick Mullens.

Much more than 3 of those guys will be considered successful. Williams, Daniels, Maye, Stroud, and Nix will all have 5+ years starting IMO. Dart and Ward are too early to tell, but there's enough there from Nix and Stroud to think that they are going to have that. There's been enough success that even if they don't get that second contract from their first team, they will get a shot on another QB needy team to start.

Not necessarily. Jones doesn't have any stand out talents, but he is MUCH better than Mullens. He may only end up being a back up, but that doesn't mean you HAVE to have physical tools to be a quality starting QB in the NFL. Guys like Pennington, Purdy, Brady even (his stand out talent was his brain), shoot even Manning late in his career when he was tearing it up with the Broncos had lost his arm strength and he never could move at all. He just won by being smarter and accurate. Lots of ways to be a quality QB in the league. The top QB prospect in the draft right now has zero NFL caliber physical tools either. Average at best arm, not a great athlete, struggles moving in the pocket.... but he's going to be the first guy taken because he's smart and accurate and that's enough.
