Should the Steelers be in on a JJ McCarthy trade for a day 3 picks?

If the Vikings sign Kyler Murray, you can bet that JJ will be pulling a Kenny Pickett and start demanding a trade immediately! Murry is only 28 years old, so JJ's time as the team's starting QB will be gone. I am assuming Kyler Murray will not be competing for the starting job if he signs with Minnesota.

    Kenny's trade.
    Pittsburgh receiving a 2024 third-round pick (No. 98) and two 2025 seventh-round picks in exchange for Pickett and a 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 120).

As crazy as it sounds JJ McCarthy is still only 23 years old.

I am thinking a 4th or 5th round pick could land JJ, unless the Vikings want to do some kind of Pick Swap like the Kenny Pickett trade.

I never thought He was going to be good, but people told me that a great HC, and OC could make him good, and they didn't So I would say no.

The Vikings have a great receiving tandem but finished 29th in passing yardage. That isn't on the receivers it's on the QB.

Why would any team trade for a player who has not put a single NFL caliber skill on tape? Just because another team was foolish enough to draft him in the first round?

Please, no. What would be the point? We have Howard. They need a decent veteran QB if they are going to go with adding a QB to let Howard learn. I wouldn't take him even he was a free agent begging for a job.

JJ is a bit of an enigma.
He can't stay healthy, that's for sure.
And he has a very good QB coach O'Connell.
My take on JJ was that he should have rode the Pine till the end of Darnold's new contract. See what you got behind Darnold first.
    - Darnold finished that season with career highs in nearly every statistical category, throwing for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and a 102.5 passer rating. Why in the world did they just up and decide to go with a rookie?

So, if one thinks Omar is questionable, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is the poster boy for the worst of the worst. I never understood why the Vikings hired him in the first place.

I don't know what plans the Vikes have. Murray won't answer any prayers, he's terrible and I will celebrate Minnesota signing him so Omar cannot.

There's only 2 QB's I would have any interests in, neither are JJ.
Mac Jones - a 2-year prove it contract that also buys time for knucklehead to figure out a QB situation. (this is on the table despite some bloviating to the contrary.)
Kirk Cousins - an 'end-of-career' preferably 1-year deal, maybe 2, for the same reason above.

We have 12 picks. I don't think I trade up but I would take a QB that falls into the 2nd round or worst case the first 3rd round pick.
Howard and that pick can duel it out for a roster spot.. (if Howard can't make it, he was a 6th round pick anyway)

Not a franchise QB. McCarthy is another in a long line of first round QBs who played well in college... but don't translate to the NFL.

So we are going to trade a player who can’t hardly touch a QB any more for one that can’t touch his toes.

We will see if the ball gets rolling today, as Kyler Murry is visiting Minnesota.

I still think a young 23 year old JJ McCarthy is better than anything we currently have on the team.

I think Watt will be good in '26. The whole lung puncture thing set him back last year.

I like JJ's upside for the same reason I like Trey Lance's, They have all the raw talent in the world, I think they were both Young and Dumb and came out of college too Early. Trey's and JJ's Ceiling is just too HIGH to ignore. McCarthy gest a lot of credit for developing a young Dak Prescott when he was in Dallas; so lets bring in someone with a lot of talent that just need to be developed.

JJ McCarthy was 20 years old when he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Trey Lance was 20 years old when he declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.

    How about no?

By the way continually pointing out he's both "young" and "23", isn't changing anyone's mind.

I know, I was the only buyer on Trey Lance, and now it looks like I am the only buyer on JJ McCarthy.

Funny, so many people on this board were screaming for Malik Willis this year, and I wanted nothing to do with him; go figure.

Hard pass via trade in rounds 4-7 . Body made of glass. Sushi level raw at reading defenses
