They are saying locally that Warren will be third down back.
Looks like his run attempts will go down considerably?

Third down back is laughable. I doubt that he even loses his roll to Dowdle. It seems like they didnt want to pay anyone more than Warren which would indicate he is to remain the lead back.

You’re right, got players mixed up, it was Gainwell he came in less than.

Dowdle getting a smidge more than Warren, maybe they are changing the guard.

He wont be demoted to 3rd down back though thats for sure.

Dowdle ran for more yards and averaged more yards per carry than Warren did last year. He also has more experience in McCarthy's system from their time in Dallas. I wouldn't be surprised to see them splitting the touches evenly, but Dowdle could end up with more of the carries. Gainwell was excellent in 2025, but Dowdle is a better partner for Warren, allowing him to take over the third-down role as part of his workload. That is an an area in which Warren excels.

I haven’t watched a lot of Rico’s play over the past couple of years, but from what I saw he’s a very solid inside runner who should impact heavily. From what I’ve read in many outlets he’s solid in pass protection, which is a must, especially if we have a 43 year old QB next season.

I would have loved to have Gainwell back, but he and Warren are similar players. Dowdel provides a complementary chess piece. It also signals that the team is not confident at all in K. Johnson being able to make a year 1 to year 2 step.
