With the release of Jonnu Smith they have over $50 million in cap space available.

    Fake news.

I have been told that the Watt contract has crippled the team's ability to do pay for stuff for I believe 7 generations.

Not true! They just bought 3 cases of duct tape to fix the ripped fabric on the weight benches.

OK, what am I missing here guys? I didn't think you could sign Free Agents yet. Is this because he was released, and not that his contract with his 2025 team expired like most current Free Agents?

The Chargers have just signed a free agent to a 3 year deal. Played with Washington last year and was released in February.

Like right now, could a team sign Free Agent Jonnu Smith if they wanted to, and not wait for Free Agency to begin.

Yes they can. The starting date for free agency effectively sets a deadline for teams to lock up their own free agents before they become free. If a player is cut, he’s already off the roster and the team has relinquished the sole negotiating rights.

Hopefully they deducted the cost of the duct tape from Jonnu Smith's salary when they released him.

The free agent group this year is relatively weak. The cap seems to have expanded so much that teams don’t have to let players walk away to the same extent as before. I think the team will use free agency to fill some roster gaps, and that’s about it.

If Rodgers is coming back then a possession receiver like Wandale Robinson might make sense, even if they have to overpay a bit

I picked "yes", but I won't be surprised if they do their biggest acquisitions through trade again (e.g. Metcalf and Ramsey).

The league mandates how much cash they have to spend.

We do have some extension candidates, but I think JPJr is the only one that will be expensive.

I don't think we'll extend Queen. I don't think Boz or Washington will be expensive. And if I'm Herbig, I'm seriously considering waiting for UFA to go somewhere where I can start (and get paid like a starter). Do we extend Benton? Not sure. He did have his best season last year. But has been less than hoped for IMO.

Per Dave Bryan, we have almost $30MM in effective cap space after cleaning up all the stuff we need to do. And we could also restructure Freiermuth and Metcalf to free up more space. We've mostly shied away from big restructures lately. Which I personally think is a good idea for a team that isn't in the think of a competitive window.

If we bring back Rodgers (I think we will), I could see us bringing in another WR (hopefully one that isn't 30). I do think we'll draft one before the end of day 2, but we really need at least 2 NFL-caliber WRs IMO. And we know Rodgers doesn't really get along with young WRs.

I could also see us bringing in a safety too (probably not too expensive). There's a need here. It's not that expensive a position. And maybe the market is depressed since it seems like a there's a good number of safeties available in the draft.

We can all make jokes but we are getting no where to competing for a world championship.
Isn't frustrating? C'mon steelers give us some hope.

Too similar to Metcalf I think?

They need a separator / chain mover at WR rather than another X

over the cap say's we have 46,227,382 available after smith's release. cut 19.5 for ramesy and 13.330 for queen and 4.750 for malik harrison and we could be in really great shape to invest in a bunch of help. add the cap going up and we could be around 100 mil. to use. :hehehe::smiley1::cool:

He would improve any team in the NFL without a doubt. But how many times did we see Rodgers bail out of the play by throwing a bomb on third and short because nobody was open? Seemed to happen several times each game. Metcalf isn’t going to get open on those downs and it looks like Roman Wilson is a bust.

I think a true slot guy like Wandale would be a very good fit in this offence, assuming Rodgers is back.

do you think they are afraid to pull the trigger? queen, DK, ramsey, thornhill, clark, elliott, harrison, smith, slay, gainwell, rodgers, peat, MVS, thielen, peppers, drisscoll, dugger. 9 of them on the already cap heavy towards the defense signings. 8 towards the offense. i don't think it's pulling the trigger but who they were pulling the trigger on.
