The Vikings are releasing Jonathan Allen.
If he would sign for the right money, that is the guy I would bring in for sure.
He can do the 3-4 and probably excel in it and would be fine in the 4 down line.
He's in the Cam Heyward mold, and I think there is some more ceiling space if the DC wants it.
But I would not agree to a Top Tier contract.

He must've choked you blind. ;)

Pats* are shameless...kept him for the playoff run and then dumped him now with his legal issues.

I forgot about it. Dont remember much about the report, just something about past dues owed for her services.

I hate how the Steelers sign expensive third contract FA players and then have them be total on the field busts!

Posts list of expensive third contract FA's.

Surely there better ideas than this available?

That's another trend Kahn broke from. With only a few exceptions Steelers normally went after FAs looking for their 2nd contract. That went out the window last year. Kahn's FA signings have been fairly marginal. It remains to be seen whether he was doing Tomlin's bidding or he went outside the box on his own.

Ravens and Lamar Jackson are both going to learn a VERY HARD lesson about giving away a tremendous Offensive Lineman. Even accounting for this draft, there aren't any ones available who can replicate what Tyler Linderbaum provides. Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black and Keeanu Benton all should be quite happy right about now.

This isn't accounting for Mason Graham and others either.

They did do that when they had to pay a QB. That kind of boxes you out from star hunting for big name guys in FA. You have to get a guy that either needs a change of scenery (Farrior) or is a better fit for your system than the one they were previously in (Van Olhoffen).

I think the past 5-6 years, they had no big ass QB contract to navigate so they went star hunting hoping to catch lightening in a bottle.

I really think it has more to do with not having a QB than anyone sitting in the head coaching or GM role.

Doesn’t bode well for luring any FA’s here. Pierce is probably the top get at the WR position.

Could be like you said and they held onto him for the playoff run or could have just been the process. This took place in Dec it says, not a lot of time to investigate it. Doesn’t bode well for Diggs if they are basing his release off of evidence obtained.

    Bingo.

All the people saying that it doesn't matter if the fans and public know if the quarterback has committed to the team or what the plan is don't understand that every player that is a free agent is focused exactly on that point because they're not coming if the quarterback stinks and there's no known plan.

This is NFL free agent player 101. All things being equal, the player is going to go to the best situation for them. The teams with good quarterback situations are certainly going to be more attractive to wide receivers. It's not that difficult to understand.

The unknown scares the hell out of players looking to sign with teams. Especially at the quarterback position.

Case in point....Aiyuk resigning with the Niners rather than get traded to Pittsburgh.

Why Valdes-Scantling originally chose a PS rather then the Steelers roster.

Almost like there is a reason all those FAs were on defense....

The secrecy, waiting, posturing, and eventually signing 1-year rentals isn't doing them any favors.

I know you are going to say that ownership has been the problem, but I think it has been more than that. I just can't wait to see development of a young quarterback and a clear direction for the offense. I admit that I have no idea what is about to happen and the path they will choose. I hope the quarterback youth movement happens sooner rather than later.

I'm impatient for them to get going onto a young QB as well.

But I am willing to wait a year or so in order to not repeat the KP debacle. That was a crapfest from the word jump.

And I....only speaking to the pre-draft evaluations....I get SERIOUS KP vibes from Ty Simpson. Processor, accurate, can overcome mediocre athleticism and arm with intangibles....nope....nope....I've seen this movie before and it stinks.

I would FAR rather suffer through them drafting that big armed goofball from Penn State. At least it will be fun watching him throw the ball to the moon.

I think we all have to be a little patient with the entire Mike McCarthy project. As hard as it may be, we all have to give him time to put his fingerprints on this team and his vision of what this team will be in place.

Patience is all I have been asking for from the team as well. I hope they don't rush it.

I'm with you. This year, if they do draft a quarterback, I want it to be somebody like Allar or a guy like Green that has elite arm talent and elite traits that can be developed. In the meantime, see what Howard has and see where that goes.

So Diggs is accused of strangling a woman and stealing a Ferrari, Jimmy Haslem is reaching for his phone right now.
