I'm sure there's a lot that went on behind the scenes that we don't know. And there was supposedly some text messaging going on between Rudolph and Pickett regarding what signing Wilson really meant.

I'm sure there's also more than enough ego bruising going on. We draft Kenny in the first. Name him QB1. Essentially bench him after injury then bring in a HOF QB as "competition". Did anyone really think that Wilson was not going to be QB1 by default? How many first round drafted QBs, named QB1 in his first season, are going to take well having a hall of fame QB come in as competition?

It makes me a bit nutz how much time we've wasted finding Ben's replacement. I know it's not easy and we have the benefit of hindsight now, but what we've done at the QB position, and the offense in general, has been a mess. And the horrific results have shown it.

I am convinced it was Colbert's pick. Sure, Rooney had to sign off on it, he always does. But Colbert talked repeatedly about going out by setting the table for the next SB run like Newsome did with the Ravens by drafting Lamar Jackson to step in after Flacco. We can debate that reality all we want in another thread. But Colbert pushed to get one last draft. And he was bound and determined to get his QB.

There was a series of franchise altering mistakes all made together. Letting Colbert have a legacy draft. Heck, we can rewind a draft or two prior to that and look at drafting the "missing pieces" for an old man Ben playoff push instead of the best players available. Goes a long way to explaining why there have been no second contracts handed out. But back to the main point -- Colbert made the KP pick happen. I just can't see it any other way. Then someone or some group of someones made the disastrous decision to hand Matt Canada the keys.

You could have weathered a poor QB that needed to be buoyed by the system for awhile....teams do it all the time. Or you could have weathered a good QB held back by a crappy system....teams do that all the time. But you can not weather both at the same time.

I honestly think Colbert was an excellent GM and believe he consistently made some savvy moves, but the last stanza of his tenure was really bad, at least in hindsight.

Richardson is the first QB I know of that pulled himself from a game 'because he was too tired'. I mean, what professional football player does that? Especially one on a rookie contract.

It's possible, but then the rest of the org is complicit in the decision instead of talking some sense into Colbert (and/or Rooney).

You're right, it was a perfect storm of bad OC/bad QB. The only positive we can take from it is that the Steelers didn't spend years hoping to make the QB better. But in reality, it was KP that saved the Steelers from themselves.

Agreed. I really didnt think that was disputed. Colbert was on record talking about how he wanted to set the franchise up for the future after he left.

I have mixed feelings about this. I felt like Willis did the same thing in GB against the Rats but used an injury to cover for it.

I didn’t like the blowback Richardson got because we see WR’s and RB’s ask to come out all the time after a big gain or a long sprint.

I didn’t see the game but if Richardson was running for his life maybe he was dead tired?

I do know I watched him play injured and he came out and when he went back in they ran a QB draw.. lol. Dude is limping like crazy and they called a QB draw. They screwed up and threw that man to the wolves.

As wrs, how fast they can run, jump, or how far they can throw the ball.
As we have seen. The two most highly decorated Qbs in the history of the NFL could not do any of that. Montana, and Brady neither could jump far, run fast, and neither had even close to the strongest arms in the NFL then, or now.
All I'm saying is to rank a Qb, again a Qb by speed, jumping ability as their so called talent is strange. If that is so then Taylen Green should be the 1st Qb off the board this year, and we all, or most of us know he shouldn't.

He wasn't running for his life. Now if you said he was tired of getting beat up with sacks then you might have a point. But even then I've never heard of a QB tapping out like he said. But I think he was just getting embarrassed with how bad he was playing.
