The article was ranking Pickett as the worse selection because he was ranked the worst QB. It’s not based on draft position, obviously guys selected top 5 or that a team gave up a lot of draft capital for would be worse picks for those reasons.

But from pure capabilities perspective, scouts and executives polled chose Pickett as the worst. There is nothing special about him, what does he do well? Not particularly athletic, undersized hands, average arm, poor accuracy, poor wonderlic score.

Agreed, when was the last time the Steelers picked up a 5th year option?

Pickett threw a pretty good deep ball at Pitt (had two great WR's), but it never translated well in the pros. But yes, everything else was average or below average. It was a reach for the Steelers to draft him in the 1st round, and unfortunately it didn't work out. I'd be surprised if he's still in the league next year.

There is no way a QB drafted in the top 5 is “better” than a QB drafted in the 20’s if franchises give up on both.

I think the reason Kenny is in the discussion is because folks thought the Steelers were a QB away from glory and expectations were high. Yet we often handcuffed Kenny until the 4th quarter.

I was a huge Pitt/ Pickett fan so I have time when it comes to Kenny. He didn’t pan out but we just watched Aaron Rodgers put up 6 points in a playoff game. The offense was inept under Tomlin and company and if we invested in the offense like we invested in defense maybe we have more success.

I’ll say this.. go back to the Raiders game, both Baltimore games and even the Miami game that we lost. Kenny showed flashes when we opened the offense up.

Buffalo invested in Josh Allen and gave him weapons after his first few years. What did the Steelers invest in on offense? We shipped Pickens out of town and he was a top 5 WR. We brought in DK who is also a head case. My frustration with the FO was giving the D the world but the offense was treated like an afterthought.

Pickett had a weak arm, horrible pocket presence, couldn't scramble, etc. He was just not talented, and he had the least amount of talent compared to the other QBs on the list which is the criteria for the article.

Its a good thing Steelers didn't invest in the offense and moved on from Pickett when they did. Had they just had a tiny bit more success, we'd likely still be saddled with Pickett.
