This is the same guy DJ used to work with. Problem though according to reports is not Wilsons ability to get open but to learn the playbook and audibles.

    There’s two explanations:

Wilson is just not Rodgers cup of tea and it won’t matter what he does. Most extreme example of this is Jeff Janis. Rodgers basically hounded that dude for years.

Wilson is too dumb to succeed with the mental aspect.

It won’t matter which is true for 2026 if we run it back with Rodgers.

Poor route runner ,doesn't find holes in zones, 1 speed route runner, all problems he continues to have .. The QB cant trust him to throw to a spot because he is never consistent .. He gets away with this in camp and preseason and when the good DB'S get on the field they make him round off routes and destroy the timing and precision of the play..

The Team needs to let him go and move on ..Wilson needs a off script Offense with a extend the play QB where his poor awareness and route running doesn't mean much..

    Hopefully this helps him.

Would be great if he wasn't a wasted pick (which is pretty much what he's been so far...sadly).

Good to see that he's getting after it to get better.

I have no reason to doubt what you’re saying.

It is interesting however that his main pre-draft selling point was that he was a good route runner. However, the Google machine also turns up pre-draft assessments that say he can’t run a route to save his life.

Additionally, Alex K did a couple of video clip things with how Wilson was getting separation/open and just not getting the ball.

I’m far too dumb to figure out which is which. Tomlin and Smith’s only public comments were so vague they could have meant anything but SOUNDED like they were saying Wilson wasn’t up to snuff in practice and the meeting room.

He can get open , but the people who evaluated his College tape didn't realize it was his speed getting him open which is good for him , but bad for the QB if he is a throw them open QB and the 2 can't get on the same page..The great WR'S can run routes at different paces to create the space , but end up at the right spot at the right time with leverage....

If it's a breaking route then the QB will throw to the spot the WR should get to out of the break, if said WR rounds the route the mesh point of the catch is compromised and the WR losses the leverage and DB'S can over cut or under cut the route ...Basically the QB can't trust that WR is why AR is such a prick about how the route has to be run..

Especially a QB like Rodgers who throws to where you're supposed to be (sometimes no-look passing).

He probably would’ve worked well with Ben.

I’m going with door number two

Last camp Rodgers went out of his way to help Wilson but he did say Wilson has to get out of his own head or something to that extent

Crazy thing is in less than 3 whole years with Ben he had 2764 yards, and 20 tds. After Ben he became bad enough nobody would even keep him.

Whatever the reason, Roman Wilson still should get another shot; Aaron Rodgers or not. He is still the teams best slot option as he can defeat press more efficiently and consistently than CA III can (from the limited snaps that we did see Wilson on the field in comparison to CA III). Hopefully it all comes together in year three.

That said, that isn't going to prevent Pittsburgh from adding WR Talent. I personally wouldn't be surprised if the team elects to add talent to that room via the classic shotgun approach; some talent in FA and some in the draft.

Well good for him. Putting the work in.

I do feel that McCarthy will hang a sign up saying "The middle of the field is open for business"

    What a concept!
