Bill Mazeroski died a few days ago. I was 6 when he hit his walk off homer against the Yankees. Maz was the greatest fielding second baseman and still holds some defensive records. Maz and Clemente were the only two holdovers from the 60 team that won the World Series again in 1971. Maz died at age 89 and was one of my boyhood heros. RIP Maz.

I think I read that he still holds the MLB record for most double plays. Those were some smooth quick hands. It also must credit Groat, Scofield and later SS's with helping out since it takes 2 or 3 to perfect the DP. OK 4, since maybe more importantly the pitcher who must be credited as well for keeping it on the ground in the infield. Well done Maz. The statue of him at PNC is amazing!

In 1966 Gene Alley and Maz set the major league record for double plays turned in a season. Still the record 60 years later.
