I'm all for that last part. Like I said before, if it had been up to me , we would have drafted Gonzalez, and JPJ the same year, 1, and 2.

seriously though, i would rather see pierre signed and asante samuel. we did draft kent but he may never make the field for us. we need a safety. i'd love kamron curl and draft one. we do have castro to add at strong safety already. i also might extend echols.

Pittsburgh doesn't have much of a choice regarding JPJ's contract. He is the best Corner the Steelers have had since Ike Taylor. Other than Joe Haden, whomever is a close second.... isn't remotely a close second. Starting Corners are already difficult to find as it is; this years draft being a massive exception to that rule.

Corners though like JPJ?! Good luck finding another like him. He is easily a Top 10 Corner and there can be debates for him being placed in the top five; production or not.

Long story short?! Peezy Jr is getting paid.

    End of discussion.

While all of these things may be true, it doesnt doesn't make him even crack the top 10 in the league and sure as heck not worth highest CB pay. Of course I want the steelers to try and keep him but I don't want to see the infamous disappearing act once a guy gets the fat payday. Too many examples of that to ignore. We need to spend more money on offense, not continuing to to pour money into the defense like has happened the last several years.

Money is not likely to change Porter. He grew up loaded.

The money that You bring up on the D is for 3rd contracts , not 1st real contracts, and you dont let the best CB on your team go because of other contracts. Two positions in the NFL are the hardest to find great players at. QBs, and CBs. That's why teams try their darnedest not to lose them. Also JPJ was above top 10 in many CB categories, just not Ints.

Pretty much . I won't lie. Safeties, and CBs are the cornerstone to any great D IMO.

Spare me the lecture. What categories was JPJ top 10 for CBs? It sure isn't INTs as we've discussed. And 52 tackles doesn't even put him in the top 25. What are his PBU or PD stats? Look, I'm not saying JPJ is a scrub and the steelers need him. But paying him that kind of money heading into year 4 is foolish and unwarranted. You won't convince me otherwise.

He was second in yards allowed per coverage snap and third in passer rating allowed when targeted. Pro Football Reference had him at allowing 48.5% comp % too, which would put him in the top 5 as well. He also didn't allow a TD while targeted in 2025, which is obviously the best in the league.

So, he doesn't give up yards, catches, a good passer rating when targeted, or TD's. He's a top 5 CB when you factor coverage ability alone. Yes, the INT's aren't there... but he is a high end player. There is absolutely no reason not to give him a contract worth his abilities. CB is such a hard position to find players, so when you have a really good one... you sign him. Somewhere in the 25-28 million a year range is beyond fair for his abilities. He likely won't make the $30m/yr the multi year AP players like Stingley and Gardner do, but he will be paid higher than every other CB at the position.

    I agree.

I have no idea what the other posters don't understand and aren't seeing when they watch him play. Porter Jr is the best cornerback they have had in many, many years. Why the hell would they not want to sign a shutdown corner when it took them over a decade to find one?

He should be getting paid, unless his idiot father keeps running his mouth and they want him away from the team. There is no football/performance reason not to sign him.
