    He was 97. I remember him pitching at Forbes Field. Great pitcher

    RIP Elroy! Thanks for great memories. Young Pirate fans will never have the chance to thank anyone.

    Didn't Bob Prince have some nickname for him?? I'm blank trying to come up with it. Something other then "Baron of the Bullpen"??????????????

    There was the Deacon (V Law), the Quail (B Virdon), the Hawk (D Hoak), The Great (R Clemente), and of course Vinegar Bend Mizell who didn't need a nickname at all. Smokey Burgess certainly deserved one - should have been Stump? Later there was the Cobra (D Parker). Can't remember one for Elroy other than the Baron. :shrug:

    I remember that Face was also a good carpenter in the off-season and did some work on homes in my area. back when they probably made $10-$15k a year if they were lucky.
